POI from CSV, Description will not display

I am trying to create a POI with POI loader and the nuvi 255w.

I tried importing a CSV file with 2 points (using a GPX file returned the same result):

-21.90789429419679,64.13694894977525,"Sögugatan Úthlíð","Hin sögufræga gata Úthlíð. Til vesturs sest Klambratún."
-21.91009864658457,64.13740253541684,"Tunglið","Hálfmáninn. Mikið notaður sem solbekkur á sumrin og sleðabrekka á veturna."

When I approached the POI the Name displayed correctly but in neither case the Description was displayed.

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

.

Do you have the correct language file in use? Just a guess.

The nuvi is set to "British

The nuvi is set to "British English" (Icelandic cannot be chosen). The CSV file is in Icelandic.

Does that matter?

File Encoding?

I strongly suspect the encoding of the gpx / csv file used to contain the data. I've not looked into this type of issue too closely with csv files, but you should be able to get this data to display properly using gpx input.

(gpx files have a bit of a 'gotcha', in that the file has to say how the data's encoded, and then you have to make sure that it actually is encoded that way.)

Try creating a gpx file using the trial Version of GeePeeEx Editor and see if it works. I did a very quick test on a StreetPilot C510 and it worked OK.

See link in sig.

It looks as if you have the lat/long columns reversed. It looks like 21 degrees W long and 64 degrees N lat.

He has longitude in column 1; what are you seeing?

The coordinates look fine, but I'm concerned about this comment "When I approached the POI the Name displayed correctly but in neither case the Description was displayed."

To the OP, am I misunderstanding what you wrote or are you expecting the description to be displayed when the POI alert comes up? If so, this isn't going to occur. The description only shows up when you view the POI location on the Custom POI menu.

Or, if you look at his previous post, where he said he was going to check out Phil's suggestion, perhaps he is saying THAT was his problem. And I don't look anything like MM (at least for her sake, I hope not). grin

Getting descriptions to display in POIs created from GeePeeEx

There's a couple of chain stores in my local area that I'd like to create custom POI files for. Consequently, with 50-80 locations to create, recommendations of the use of GeePeeEx have been welcome. Using the trial version now for my first ever attempt at creating a POI file, I am stumped on one matter.

I have manually created a test file, using some additional info to be inserted into the "description" field of GeePeeEx. This will presumably be shown as a page 2 on a Nuvi 200W. However, when loaded into my Nuvi, no "More" button appears at all. I can't get to the 2nd page of info.

In reality, what I would actually prefer is to have all the description appear on the page 1, ala the open hours shown in the "Small Town Cafes" files uploaded in the POI files section here.

Is this a case of my Nuvi 200W not being capable of displaying the 2nd page, or is it some option within GeePeeEx that I don't have properly selected? I have checked the GeePeeEx help without success.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

In theory, at least, I can smile

Can you send me a copy of your .gpx file? (and if possible, the POI.GPI that POILoader created from it).

Send it to:

(but remove the spaces)
