How to disable traffic antenna in cigarette lighter plug?

HI all,
I have a Garmin C550 and the traffic expired and I don't want to renew. I use my C550 on both my car and motorcycle. With the cigarette lighter plugged in to the C550, the traffic antenna was flashing, even the cable wasn't connected to power.

I'm wondering if there is a way to disable it completely?
Any diagnostic hack to disable the traffic?

Thanks.

.

Get a plain power cable, then sell the traffic one on eBay.

A quite technical approach would be to wrap the adapter with electrical tape -- this assumes you want to eliminate the flashing LED.

Thanks for the comments. I

Thanks for the comments. I wasn't just talking about the flashing orange light. I believe the GPS constantly receives the FM traffic signal (even it expires) and therefore wasted the battery power when I use it on my motorcycle without plugging it in. I want to disable the whole deal of "searching for FM traffic. Found signal. Check for expiration. Repeat"...

Beside, if it doesn't have to do that, I'm sure the GPS map/routing will be faster without having to waste the CPU on the traffic signal.

what is it?

No Plug, No Power

MC,

If you're just going to run the GPS on its internal battery you obviously don't need the power cord at all so no power used by the receiver. If you're plugging into an accessory power port on your bike the traffic receiver isn't using enough power to bother your motorcycle battery.

The biggest problem with the receiver plug (for bike use) is really its bulk. I'd agree with others who've suggested you buy or make a plain vanilla accessory connector (assuming you're going to use a power port on the bike) and not worry about it. How do I know this? Thanks, Gadgetjq, you have a really cool web site!
I did install a 12V car cigarette lighter outlet to plug in my GPS (and charge my NiMH batteries when I'm on a long trip). But most of time time, I ran my GPS without the cord. I guess I'm going to get a power cord without the bulky FM receiver.
Thanks.
