school zones

thank you they were in extras. however, how do I know if I loaded the voice notification

I'm not sure since I've

I'm not sure since I've never done voice myself. You can try driving past a school and see what happens.

what do you think

Just purchased my gps. What do you think of the POI red light safety zone download?

Your unit does not have an mp3 player, so, unless you converted a file to wav, it wouldn't have loaded. You can always simulated a route past a school on the list to see how it works.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

easy to convert to wav

I installed the red light cam warning poi with a bmp file and the mp3 sound. my nuvi 254wt doesn't play mp3 so I converted it to a wav file using the free program wav2mp3 wizard. Then just name everything the same file name, put in a folder, and run the poiloader to put it on the unit. I then go to the poi folder in the garmin and rename the prefix of the file so it doesn't get overwritten the next time i run poiloader. It worked like a charm and alerted me to the cam before I got to the light. You might need to turn on proximity alerts for the custom poi's to get it to work.

Easy to convert to wav

Proximity alerts work just fine!

Steve

I just started this whole shabang. I have an mp3 on my Garmin. Do you have to upload something seperate for a proximity alert and the voice on the red lights or school zones? And where are the red lights and school zone programs stored on the Garmin? And I presume this is all done with the POI Loader? Sorry...very new on this stuff.

great!

Got it squared away.

Got it squared away.

Did you find a download with

Did you find a download with all the school zones across America?

Have you looked here ...

Thank you...the second one

Thank you...the second one is the winner. BTW, let me ask...when you put a speed or traffic camera list into your unit, does a standard voice alert and icon automatically come with it? I see there are many to choose from....is that in case you don't want the standard one or is the list there because the no sound and/or icon at all automatically comes with the loading of these cameras? And, if you want one of the listed sound alerts and/or icons, how exactly do you incorporate them into loading into your unit through the POI Loader?
Thanks

.

Check out these pages from the FAQs regarding alerts and custom alert sounds.

Hornbyp's guide to setting alerts with POI Loader

Loading MP3s as Custom Sounds
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4360

You Must Choose

None of the POI files "come with" a bmp icon or mp3 audio alert sound file - you must pick the one you want and download each to your PC.

Then, rename the bmp and mp3 files to exactly match the csv (or gpx) file and put them in the same folder on your PC before using POI Loader to upload them to your GPS, like this:

Walmart.csv
Walmart.bmp
Walmart.mp3

Thanks a lot; that helps.

red light alert

In my nuvi 650 there is no special icon or voice alert by default. when you approaching red light camera area standard response is attention signal (sort of a gong-like beep) and line with incoming street name or turn direction (top of the screen) is changing to red. if it doesn't collide with showing street name it shows text like "red light camera..." (text probably depends on description in poi file).
Proximity alerts are set in unit configuration.
There is no special icon, it just shows on map small dot with info like "red light camera" if you zoom to this area.
If You need "personalized" alerts or icons they need to be downloaded separately. You can find info about it on this forum:

Info about how to use them is on the bottom of sites
