Nuvi 760 battery lasts 5 hours?

Has anyone done the following?

Clocked how long his/her Nuvi 760 battery took to run down at home. Was it close to 5 hours as Garmin's specs stated? Will a "dead" Nuvi unit operate immediately upon being plugged into the cigarette lighter?

Battery

I don't know about your other two questions, but yes, a Nuvi with a dead battery should switch on and operate immediately when you plug it into a power source.

"up to" 5 hours

The spec's say up to 5 hours. It depends what all is powered (Bluetooth) and screen brightness. My 750 at 50% brightness lasted about 4 hours 15 minutes before it shut down. Some 750 users got less than that, but I don't know if those had been left in the hot sun or if they ever ran them without the vehicle cable occasionally to calibrate the battery meter.

If you run it down all the way, it has been said that it might only charge from the PC USB cable (that came from Garmin). But I cannot confirm that, because I tested it indoors at my computer (did have satellite lock) and then used USB to charge it.

A couple of hours

If I am lucky.
