POI icon size

As I read the many informative posts here, I frequently come across the fact that the recommended icon size for custom POI's is 16x16, 18x18, 22x22 or 24x24.

Is this a limitation that needs to be adhered to?

Is it a technical/display limitation?

Or a consistency limitation in terms of sharing bmp icons with the members?

Or is it a matter of not wanting to cover any more of the map than is necessary?

My tired old eyes have a pretty tough time making out even a 24x24 icon on my 765T's screen (and I don't try to do so while in motion) shock

idea is it possible to use a 32x32 icon?

24x24 limit

pretty sure the limit on the Garmin's is 24x24.

POI Loader

This is a direct quote from the POI Loader Help file:

"Your Garmin GPS device may have image size requirements. Most compatible Garmin products work well with icons that are 24x24 pixels or smaller. Bitmaps that do not meet those requirements may appear distorted when viewed on the unit's screen."

256-color only

Also, make sure they are saved with 8-bit pixels (corresponding to 256 colors). Anything else and the magenta will not be interpreted as transparent by the GPS.

When you resize an icon, most programs (such as Paint.NET) will try to combine or expand pixels into intermediate colors to make the result look closer to the original. That's fine but it may also change the bit depth and/or modify the pure magenta into something that will show as is on the GPS instead of transparent.
