Three "secret" screens

I'm fairly new to GPS, and very new to this board, but I've found something interesting with my Nuvi 760, and see no mention of it on the forums (however, it probably is and I just couldn't find it. If so, sorry.).
Long story short, I had a Nuvi 680 and got a 760. What I missed was the satalite acquisition screen. It wasn't in the manual.
I called Garmin, and after talking to two techs, the second one told me how to get to it: press and hold the sat signal icon for a couple of seconds. Viola, it worked!
That however got me thinking... What else is hidden and undocumented? So, some button-pressing later, I found two others.
#2: A multi page info and diagnostics screen. Get to it by pressing the battery-level icon for several seconds.
#3 some sort of sat info page. Get to it from the "dashboard" screen by pressing and holding the miles-per-hour display in the center of the screen.
My dumb question of the day: why isn't this stuff in the manual?!?! Especially the satellite screen? That makes no sense to me. (I even downloaded the complete manual; nothing there either).
IMO
IMO it is not doing any harm being there so just leave it alone.
Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.
To keep you safe
My dumb question of the day: why isn't this stuff in the manual?!?! Especially the satellite screen? That makes no sense to me. (I even downloaded the complete manual; nothing there either).
I suspect that the reason has something to do with keeping you from resetting some thing you might later regret.
I'll pose the question now as to whether anyone knows of any features one can activate from these hidden screens?
These are
These are diagnostic screens so although there is lots of data there to look at, for most users it is interesting but not particularly useful.
To answer your question, on the 1xxx and 37xx models, at least, you can turn on the Nuvi's tracklog feature (not the trip log, but the detailed track logs) through these screens. That's a biggy for me.
Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.
Alternatively, press the Green bar
enter your route or destination, hit go, then press the bottom-right of the screen to bring up the coming turns, then hold the down arrow until it beeps a couple of times, and you're at the end of the list, and there you'll find the number of hours. I love thaT No more mental arithmetic for long drives. Thanks!
You should also be able to see the remaining miles and time by pressing the Green Next Turn bar at the top of the screen and then pressing Show Map. At the bottom it will show the remaining miles and time to your destination along with the US map with your route.
Just discovered that on my recent trip last week.

Satellite Screen is nice

I check the satellite screen every once in a while to see Elevation, which is otherwise not easily available on a Nuvi265WT. I don't think there are any settings you can change on that screen, unlike the diagnostic screens...
Don't know if this...

Don't know if this will work on your 265WT but try going to map view and then pressing the oval to the right of the blue Menu button. On mine, I get a screen that lets me select * direction of travel, or * Elevation, or * Time of Day.
Since this feature was not mentioned in my manual, I wondered if it was the same for you.
WOW!
Also, if you are a few screens into a program or whatever, if you hold the Back button on the bottom left for a few seconds, it will take you back to the main page so you don't have to keep pressing back, back, back etc.
This works on my NUVI 350 as well!
I have seen the future and it is now!

I've heard of this feature on some Nuvis, but it does not do anything on my unit.
I appreciate the suggestion though

Doesn't work on my 855 either.

Try pressing the compass
Nor on the 500
Looks like this will give you elevation
Elevation
By looking at the manuals, I have found that several units can get to a screen that will show the elevation.
On the 300 series - touch the signal strength bar
On the 500 series - Tools > Compass
On the 600 series - touch the signal strength bar
On the 765, I can also press and hold the signal strength bar to see elevation

quick way to get altitude on 265
On my 265T I press the vehicle on the map screen to see the "Where am I?" screen which shows elevation. Supposedly the 265WT is identical in that regard. Pressing the oval to the right of the menu button doesn't have any effect on this model, which I believe, is true of all the 200 series models.

If you ain't got pictures, I wasn't there.

actual clock arrival time instead of hour/min countdown on 765T
Just a quick question... Is there a way to see the actual arrival "clock" time instead of the hour/min countdown on the 765T while its routing. I had the 255 model before and it would show me the arrival clock time not the countdown... Nice to see the time when I will get where I'm headed. Thanks Dude and Dudettes
"You know you are getting older when you now get the same thrill from a rocking chair that you used to get from a roller coaster".
Mine does
I have both a 255W and 765T and they both show the arrival time in "actual clock time" the same way when in a route. It is in the oval button to the right of the menu button.
I do notice that on the 765T this oval to the right of the menu button is configurable to several different options such as elevation or ETA, where on the 255W the ETA was the only option available.
Works on a 255W as well
Press the vehicle on the map screen to see the "Where am I?" screen which shows elevation.
This where am I works on the 255W as well.
Actual clock time??
Unfortunately mine does not... What Software level are you on?? I'm on 4.00..
My oval is configurable to:
Direction of Travel
Elevation
Time of Day
Anyone else know if the oval can display estimated time of arrival in actual "clock" time instead of a countdown to zero while routing?? Is there another way to see this information?? Thanks all

Try it again with a route active. You get different choices when routing.
makes sense
when in "View Map" mode my 765T shows
Direction of Travel
Elevation
Time of Day
when on a "route", it shows
Estimated Time of Arival
Distance to Destination
Estimated Time to Destination
Direction of Travel
Elevation
Time of Day
Adding the three arrival/destination options makes sense when the NUVI is routing.
This also demonstrates that we all need to be extra careful when giving a solution - because the NUVI takes different logical paths depending on the situation.
Sometimes our answers are true, but not complete.
Traffic Signal Strength
I thought there was a way to display the traffic receiver signal strength, but I can't find it. I thought it was in the diagnostic screens, but apparently not. Does anyone know how?

I do not have traffic where I live but I found something very interesting
1. Power your device on
2. Touch View Map
3. Touch Speed (If you are currently in a route this may be changed to Arrival)
4. Touch and hold the middle of the MPH Speedometer
You will be in a series of Diagnostic/History screens. Mine were
Shutdowns
Stacks
TSK Mem Statistics
Nonvol Info
Maybe yours will have some info about traffic
I did see that my 765T unit had a "Defrag count" of 45
