Can a POI file be used as a route on a 660?

I have a certain route I like from home to Phoenix. My 660 doesn't like some of the way I go. Last year when it was new and so was I, it took all the way from Wichita to the OK border before it believed I wasn't going to do a U turn and take KS -54 going to Tucumcari. Now I know how to set the mid points to prevent that problem. I just wondered if it would work to build a CSV POI that had a number of points on my route and as I crossed each one we just set it for the next one. It would save looking up intermediate points. Each point could become a new intermediate along the route. Of course I would have to explain to my wife how to set each new point because I'd never do that while I was driving. I could also use the rest stop points from the rest stop file as points and stop there. This would almost make the 660 work like the route on the 760. Anyone tried this?

or, add a via point

To add a via point to a route:

-While navigating a route, touch the icon to return to the Main menu.

-Touch Where to.

-Use the Address menu to enter an address or locate the via point through the Point of Interest menu.

-When you find the via point, touch Go.

-A menu prompt displays with two options: Add as a Via Point and Set as New Destination.

-Select Add as a Via Point.

My Question

is what does anyone think about storing these points in one POI file and adding new via points as you drive since the 660 only lets you have one via point at a time. As one expires, add the next one in the list. Maybe everyone does this, I just thought of it.

If I understand correctly, your plan is to create a POI file that is a series of points that can be successively chosen as waypoints. That will certainly work, but I wonder if you aren't creating an exercise that is totally unnecessary. If, as you say, one waypoint solves the problem, creating additional points that each require 7 screen taps, would seem to involve your spouse unnecessarily. The next waypoint to choose, could be any of the several closest when you go to the file; there is the one you just passed, the one prior to that, and the proper one. You could number them 01-99, but remembering what comes next might get confusing.

The rest areas can be set to alert you by proximity and you can decide at the time whether it is a good time to stop vs trying to anticipate before ever starting the trip where would be good points to stop. If the creation and use of such a POI file is a form of entertainment for you, I doubt your wife will see it the same way.

I have a trip planned to Utah sometimes in the future for the National Parks. That is what I did laid the route out and made poi file out of it.This allows for the route I want to follow. This subject has lots of discussions on it.I picked up on it on this site a while back.

I've done this several times in the year that I've owned my Nuvi 260, but I never thought of selecting sequential waypoints as via points. I'll have to try that the next time I do a trip, even if not necessary, just to test it out.
