Creating Proximity Alert

I understand the basic concept of creating a POI but am having a problem. I downloaded rest areas from surrounding states and want to set a proximity alert to let me know a rest area is coming up in 1 mile. Have not been able to find any info on setting proximity only speed. thx

Use POI Loader

Use POI Loader in the manual mode instead of Express mode.
You can set Proximity alert distance to 5260 feet !

Use POI Loader

I can set the proximity alerts using the POI Loader, but is there a trigger that can be set within the POI csv file to mark indiviual locations to either alert or not alert?

Yes

If you use GeePeeEx, it allows you to set speed or distance on a per location basis.

Using gpx format POI files, is the means of getting full control of your alerts.

If you want to stick with csv files, you could do something like:

Add "@1" to the name of each POI you wish to trigger an alert.

This will set a speed related alert for 1mph/1kph. Since you are likely to be travelling faster than this(!), it will trigger.

You won't be able to define the distance at which it triggers though - this will be fixed at the default 1319' (402m). This is perhaps just as well, as it is likely to trigger repeatedly, until you're out of range.

Individual alert

Does the default distance trigger all the POI's in the file, or just the ones with the @1 to the POI name. Would you not set the trigger when running the POI loader which should set all of the POI's to trigger, Then only the ones in the file with the @1 would trigger at 1 mph, or would each of them trigger at the default distance?

Just the ones with "@1" in the name

No, anything set in Manual Mode applies to every POI in the file. This also applies to alerts set by virtue of 'keywords' in the file name.

Manual mode will not override information set at the individual POI level.
