is gmapprom1.img the europe map?

I find when doing a search for the above gmapprom1.img file references to it but not what it is. I suppose that gmapprom.img is 2009 North America map on my 770 but am not positive. I was thinking of deleting the europe map set (After saving a copy) as I don't use it and could use the space for other maps... Mexico etc...

According to MM in a separate thread -- yes.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Yes - the unit doesn't care what the contents are. Don't forget about the matching unlock file (gmapprom1.unl).

I have to ask Phil, why do you have a map set of just FL and IL when they are already included on the North America Map? Isn't that being repititious?

I was wondering if there was a reason for the redundency because I notice that using MapSource you can download maps by states or areas.
For example, I have the North Amer. map on the purchased GPS. I also have the whole Europe 2009NT on a SD card. Would there be any advantage if I download just Germany for an upcoming trip and put it on the Garmin itself? Or is it just as fast reading the map from the SD card?
