Chit Chat Thread for the week of November 17, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Woo Woo! I'm First!

Oh - I mean - I'm *ON* the First Page! mrgreen

Yeah - the Bears were shut out pretty bad by our friends up north this weekend.

Got cold over the weekend, with a few flurries that were gone by this morning.

On to Racing - Jimmie Johnson only needing to finish in the top 30 some spots to clinch the race for the cup did win in the top 35 (coming in at 15th) but enough to win his third Cup.

And on to other things for the week...

A GREAT Week

I hope everyone has a GREAT week !
Cool here in Flor-i-duh but beats being in the Northern snow belt.
Did that scene for 62 years and then shifted to the Sunny side for the past 10 years.
I don't have to shovel rain !

Anyway - hope everyone stays well !

cooler in Florida this morning

I renewed my Florida drivers license this morning. Can't see too well, can't hear anything softer than a jet engine, 12 second reaction time, but thank God, I still have my Florida driving license.

Where we're headed before Thanksgiving hasn't seen snow since Christmas 1997. That is something to be thankful for. Plus an outdoor shower and a winter garden to have fun with. And "girls' night out" every Thursday except holidays.

We have seen a LOT of the partly cloudy stuff though. Including heavy dense fog.

GregPaul

Ok, remember the days of the VCR and movie rental shops. The slogan was "Please be kind. Rewind." That's why I invented the DVD Disk Rewinder when they became popular, so people could rewind their DVD's before they returned them. Just plain good sense - and it won't wear out your DVD Players by rewinding all the time! mrgreen

This Treadmill is just too good to not make fun of! Of course - to make it a little more "serious," the inventors (in my non-inventive creative mind) should use larger diameter wheels with a similar gear ratio. Also, they could be somewhat lighter and narrower. This would make it so your "walking" would move the treadmill down the road is if you were running. If you built up speed to a run - it would carry you down the road like riding a fast bicycle. Steering? Who needs steering? surprised

I'm with you GregPaul - it's just too weird for me though... rolleyes

But usually not this early. January & February typically produce a few freezing mornings. Just ask the strawberry farmers in Plant City.

Heading back to CA

I helped my son in Florida and stayed for the Shuttle Launch. Found a place next to the water in Titusville and it was great. 1,000s of people lined the streets for miles each direction.

"Jack" routed me through a muddy forest area in Arkansas as a short-cut -- at night! Almost got stuck. Now I will check the map more often, when off the main highways.

n8tyv wrote:

That was me.

I don't know if I was simply driving too aggressively for conditions, or the municipalities aren't prepared (or can afford) ice-clearing materials, or a combination of both.

All I know is that I took my 4Runner sideways a couple times, only once on purpose - going down a steep hill of ice, anti-lock brakes clicking but not slowing down, cars at bottom...kicking the butt around was my only option to stop without hitting anything. cool

Too bad our regular plow guy sold his truck. I had to hand shovel ten inches of lake effect out of my driveway. evil

As luck has it, there are some ISS viewing opportunities in the coming week, here in the UK. I live in hope of seeing the ISS and Endeavour after separation.

I've been following the mission on Nasa TV, but sometimes I just leave the audio playing. This morning, I came into my computer room to investigate a strange alarm sound - it turned out to be a Smoke Detector in the Russian section of the ISS exclaim

Isn't technology great smile
