POIs by State

You can find metro area projects in the POI files.

That would be nice, but there are so many companys and locations that are in mulitple states that it could get confusing. McDonalds, for example would be listed in every state.

On the one hand, eliminating unwanted states would allow faster POI selection on my C580 but then I'd have to take the time to combine several states into a single POI which would be a pain. Also, as a (to be) creator of a 50 state POI, it would be much more time consuming to maintain.

By the way, though I haven't tried it, POI Verifier allows extraction of a single state. Multiple states could be extracted with multiple runs. Excel too could be used to extract specific states.

Yep, being able to sort the poi files that way would be great. I was going to make a page here that I'd call something like "My Arizona", but the idea was to just link poi files that I had created that contain only Arizona locations. A way to sort the pois available that only have locations within a certain state and no place else would allow all the pois for that state to be found easily.

Of course those pois that cover areas larger than a state, franchises, chains, etc, shouldn't come up in such a sorting because they have locations in more than one state.

Now if you are referring to having just state versions of pois that have national reach, then trimming the full file yourself to suit your individual need is probably the best method for that.

POI Verifier a program developed by Retired Technician will extract the locations in a POI by state. It is a great tool.
