Using POI`s on Garmin Device

I am a new gps user, trying to understand POI's. Are these added to the map as map points (part of the map, like cities, etc) or as waypoints?
I use Mapsource version 6.11 and Garmin POI Loader.
I load the csv file in POI Loader to the MapSource option. The software shows a successful operation, but I do not see anything on the map in MapSource??
What am I missing?

FAQ for loading POIs

.

Also, MapSource does not currently have the ability to view .GPI files (nor CSV files).

If you want to view your Custom POIs in MapSource, you must convert each original data file to GPX format and then open them individually in MapSource and copy and paste them into a single instance of MapSource.

Then they will show up under your Waypoints in MapSource.

I thought CSV files were...

loaded into Mapsource. I didn't play around much with Mapsource and it has been a few weeks so maybe my memory isn't correct.

.

I wish MapSource could open CSV files. Microsoft Streets and Trips can import from a CSV but MapSource can't currently.

OK I am really new to all of this.... What is MapSource?

I will be honest, I generally just punch in an address and go when I use my Garmin. But as I read I am intrigued by the many uses it has if you learn about them.

So what is MapSource and how can I use it
Thanks

It's a program for managing maps etc on a garmin gps...
