Nooby to POI, Nuvi 760

So I downloaded the Burger King POI to get started as my first custom POI. I see the file on my 760 when connected to PC. I also can pick a BK from the list at: extras> custom POI menu and it will take me to the BK. I thought that after loading a POI like the Burger King one, I would see some sort of marker at the site of every BK I drove by. I drove across the street from a BK on the list w/ just the "view map" up, and nothing showed on the screen. Am I doing something wrong. Help please. And yes I tried using search...

Bill,

There are a couple of pieces to what you are looking to do. Not only do you have to have the POI file - which you do, you need the graphic to go with it. The graphic, the .bmp file goes into the same directory as the Burger King file. The names must be exactly the same with the exception of the file extension. Run the POI loader again and the graphic will get loaded and associated with the BK locations. When you get close to a BK, you should get the alert and the graphic will pop up on the map provided the maximum radius on the display is around 800 feet or less. The same thing if you want a custom alert. The .mp3 file has to match the POI file exactly with the exception of the extension.

Remember each time you add a POI file, you need to reload all of them as there is only one custom POI file on the Garmin and it is rewritten each time POI Loader is run.

Thanks all, I can now see

Thanks all, I can now see the BK icon on my Garmin, when I pick a site from the list and then look at the map. I am going to get in the car and see how it works for real.

Thanks again!!!

don't forget

Don't forget you might have to set the poi loader to manual also. Then you can set the distance to alert.
Also I have found if said poi is on a conner it will only alert for the address that it is set at. example: cvs file say: 1437 w brill st.
Brill st and robins is an itersection so if you are driving on robins it will not alert. I have founds this with the Quik trip cvs.

No Need To Drive

No need to drive, unless you are gonna pick up a whopper and fries! You can simulate a trip to see if your alerts are working properly.

Tools > Settings > System > GPS Simulator > On

This will turn off the GPS receiver. You can then go to the map screen, scroll to a spot near a BK and press Set Loc. This will "set" your car to that spot. Then go back to the main screen, press Where To and select your destination. The Garmin will then simulate the trip.

Thanks to everyone. I

Thanks to everyone. I loaded in the Chipotle one also including mp3 and it all works great!!!
