added icons...I can't see them

Hi,

I'm new to this and would appreciate your help. I've been able to download and install the POI's...and then tried to include the icons. I followed the instructions on the FAQ (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359) and I don't see the icons on the gps. I renamed them to exactly the same as the POI file. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I have a nuvi 650.

This is answer I got back

This is answer I got back from Garmin asking the same question.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. The icons will appear as
you zoom in and are in the drop down 2D view. For example if you touch
Where To and select Browse Map you can use the 2D map view and zoom in
until you see the icons for the points of interest listed on the map.
These icons may not appear as you drive, as we keep the screen clear
from other unnecessary items. The unit should represent your favorites
on the map as you travel, so those icons you will see.

With our newer units we did impliment the feature to view the icons as
you drive. This is in the Nuvi 800 series.

Added Icons - I can't see them

Hi there,
To follow up on the above regarding icons being added to the Garmin, does this mean that my Nuvi 200w will not show my newly acquired and downloaded icons? I downloaded and followed all instructions with the little 'Toll Booth' that I was so looking forward to seeing come up on screen, but there is nothing - not even a grey dot! However, the default 'T' for Toll is very bright and large whilst driving, so why can't my little 'Toll Booth' icon show up in the same manner?
crying

If you name the icon and the

If you name the icon and the csv or gpx file the same except for the extensions you will see it once you zoom in.Using your gps forward the map page until you get to the end location. Now zoom in and see if you see the icon.

Your setup should look like this on your computer.

>My pois
>>Toll Both.csv
>>Toll Booth.bmp

If you are using the exact same coordinates as the built-in icon (the "T) maybe your icon is hiding underneath the "T". You can test this by moving your icon to a spot 100 feet in front of the toll booth.

For those who cannot see the icons, are you zoomed in to at least 200 feet and are you browsing the map (ie NOT in a navigation mode)?

I think a lot of new users assume or expect to see all the various icons (pre-loaded and/or custom) move by on the screen in 3D navigation mode as they are driving. They are disappointed when they find out it doesn't work that way.

HI, Can you explain how to

HI,

Can you explain how to get it out of 3D mode? What is the 2D drop down?

touch the map

When the GPS is displaying the navigation screen, just touch the anywhere on the map and it will switch to a 2D map display. Then, use the + and - buttons near the upper corners of the display to zoom in or out. Use the Back button to return to the navigation screen.

p.s. After posting, I re-read my earlier post (2 up from here) and realized it didn't come our the way I meant it to. Its over simplified, incomplete and misleading. Sorry redface

The pre-loaded icons don't display in navigation mode, but the custom icons will display if the POI is located close to the edge of the road you are traveling on.

I Agree

With the 650/660 you should not need to be in browse mode. Custom POIs should be visible in 3D navigation mode.

Added Icons - I can't see them

I am THRILLED to report that my icons now SHOW UP beautifully along the road whilst simulating or driving. This is exactly what I was hoping for in my Nuvi 200W. The icon is large and it shows up in the middle of the road very clearly.

I want to report here that the only thing I did differently was - after downloading the .bmp file from this website - I then right clicked on the 'toll booths.bmp' and 'saved as' DIRECTLY into my TollOne_20080707.gpx file and renamed it to match. I did not put .bmp on the end because it is already a bitmap file.

Whatever the difference is here, it WORKED!!
My lovely green booth shows up loud and clear.

grin

Glad you got it. If you were

Glad you got it. If you were typing in bmp with the file it sounds like you had double extensions the first time you tried it.
