I, too, am looking at the 7x5 series. Since I like the MSN Direct, I am waiting for the 785 to get to under $400 before I take the plunge but would be very interested in hearing about findings of any of the series. I hate trying to keep up with technology...because you can't.

garmin nuvi 765t

Hi,have had the 765t about 2 weeks the lane assist is not available in all areas, as i found out when driving on the QEW towards Burlington ont also the 3d buildings are not shown in all areas, there is also a map error as the unit could only find 1 Costco store when i did a search contacted Garmin about all this and was told they are working to update lane assist ect and when they do it will be available as an upgrade in the future, and that the missing poi files for Costco is a map error and to contact navtec, apart from that the unit is very good with directions ,voice is accurate and in sync with the on screen directions unlike my previous nuvi 770 ,i have done some simulations for differant cities to see how 3d buildings look on the map and it looks realy cool .shows great detail also colour of the buildings is shown, can also spin the map to see around the buildings, neat, Toronto,Olando,Tampa are some of the cities i used to see how this worked, hope this helps ,will be going to Olando this week so will get a real idea how good this feature works

So - So

I spent a lot of time adding text to the alerts - direction monitored, speed limit, et al, but the new text box on the alerts has been downsized and is now unreadable.

I like the improved satellite acquisition time - very fast.

I use the MSN traffic receiver from an older unit, and like the improved traffic screens. HOWEVER, once you use the receiver with the new unit (765 in my case) the subscription now shows expired when plugged into the old former unit, but still works on the 765.

I like that the mph icon was reduced in size and placed at the bottom left of the screen (I disliked it on the 750 - way too big). I wish I could turn it off as many of the speed limits have changed locally.

I think the placement of the auto icon is too low on the screen. In map view mode, if you miss a turn, the street and the name have disappeared off the bottom of the screen. I prefer the older positioning. Street names in map view mode seem to disappear at about the 5 zoom level. So I now zoom out only 4.

Lane assist and 3D view seem to be of little utility in Phoenix so far, but I'll play with these and see if there are areas where these features are implemented usefully.

THANKS KEEP IT COMING!!

All Well and Good, But . . .

I’m wondering about keeping the eyes on the road and NOT on the Nuvi screen. From what I've seen of the new Nuvis, the look must be nice. Especially if you’ve got a co- pilot. Since I drive mainly by myself, the voice and the directions are all important. 3D and all the fancy lanes seems like it would be a distraction when you least need distractions.
Keep it safe out there guys and gals.

Nuvi 765T

I sent back my 755T and got the 765T.

The case and exterior are slightly different.

Sometimes when I have the 765T plugged into the computer, it loses connection-the 755T didn't do that.

Like the 755T the text-to-speech seems spot on...it may notify you of a turn from time to time a little bit on the late side, but is generally good. Street pronunciations are much better than my cell with TeleNav.

Routing is normally good, but has a few quirks, however you can select a route in Mapquest, get the one you want by having it avoid roads, and transfer it to the Nuvi.

I am a little disappointed in the Bluetooth after trading my 755 in for this unit. The contacts, previous call list, etc. don't work with my Samsung phone. I couldn't pair the unit from the phone, but it paired ok from the device. The voice dialing works, however whenever I place or receive a call, after that call the volume on the unit doesn't work at all, for nav or phone. I have to unplug the cord from the cigarette lighter, fool around with the on/off switch to get it to shut down and plug the cord back in and restart it. I haven't contacted Garmin about this yet-I want to do more testing, but it's not good.

Also the volume of the built in speaker is inadequate for hearing calls, I need to really use the FM Transmitter which works well in my car. The volume in the 755T seemed louder, but of course I only used that for nav.

765 Does not play well with others.....

"Sometimes when I have the 765T plugged into the computer, it loses connection"

I almost gave up on the 765 because it would not connect to computers running XP. The problem seems to be corrected now, but nothing was done in terms of updates, etc. If the problem returns, the unit is going back.

I'm running Vista and it still disconnects sometimes, when the 755 never would.

What corrected the problem? Did it just start working by itself?

Disconnects...

Disconnecting from the PC at random times seems like a disaster waiting to happen. It simply can't be good for the nuvi's file system. I wonder how widespread this issue is? I'm starting to feel better that I waited on purchasing a 7x5. Hopefully, these issues will get ironed out...

765 vs 775

I am looking to get either the 765 or the 775. the 775 comes with maps of us, canada and europe. Does anyone know if thes maps are just as good as the maps that you can purchase separately. I want to know if it is worth the extra money to get the 775. If the maps are not that great, I would rather get the 765.

Wha Happened???

I had my 765T plugged into the computer yesterday and no disconnections. I think the filter thingy may have been putting downward pressure on the unit. Anyway it worked fine.

I also took the unit out yesterday and used the Bluetooth. After pressing the hang up button, surprise, I still had sound.

I definitely need to play around with the thing some more, but I'm really beginning to like it, now that it's been behaving.

The only thing I'm still having problem with is it's hard to hear the phone conversation with the built-in speaker even at 100% volume.

How i the volume on your other guys units?

No problem, bsp131. I just wondered where you got your price.

Prices do sometimes change rapidly on Amazon. It can be agonizing when you go 20 minutes later to buy something and find the price jumped $50.
