City Navigator 2009 Map Update on C340

I just loaded the Garmin City Navigator NT 2009 Map update on my Garmin C340. As memory on the set was low, the map update is probably loaded on the SD card.

Now when I start typing an address, the next screen shows two rows:
- 2008 NT All
- Ontario, Newfoundland

I have to select one of them to go to next step.

I am just wondering
1) is there any way that these two rows (maps) can be combined, so that I do not have to answer 'either' 'or' kind of answer;
2)How come the second row shows only two states although I loaded for the whole of North America and the loading process took one and a half hours. Is it possible that I loaded only two states?

Thanks for any help.

Not really sure what you

Not really sure what you intended to do.Did you want to load the maps to the sd card?I have a c340 and had no problem loading the complete map update to my unit.Did you purchase the update or a complete installation?Sounds like you need to re-install again to your unit if you have the update version.

Initially I wanted to load

Initially I wanted to load the map to the unit. But it said that memory not enough. I thought C340 does not have sufficient memory for the update. Therefore I put SD card.

How do i re-install again? What if it says memory not enough again?

Please advise.

Your Update Disc should offer you the option to which mapping you want to install If The C340 Is like The C330 you will only be able to load the US mapping on the unit and then you can load canada on the SD Card

I loaded ALL

I loaded all of the 2009NT maps ON my C340. US, Canada, Alaska.
Don't remember any problem.

My C330 had to split them between unit and SD Card

map installation

If you have the disk just re-run it like you did the first time?I asked in in the above reply did you have the map update or a full installation? The full map installation has this note in it.Note: You cannot use this product to update the maps on your preloaded Garmin device. To order updated map data for your preloaded Garmin device, visit the Map Updates page.

There is no problem loading the map update to the c340.

Same Here, No Problem

Added the 2009 update with no problem at all to my C340, right onto the unit.

I have the 2009 map update.

I have the 2009 map update. I live in Canada and I want to update whole of north america map. I would try putting it again. Just one advise. What do I do if it says memory not sufficient.

Thanks for all the help

Downloading map update

Not sure if these steps will help but would try them first before running poiloader.

1.Run Garmin WebUpdater http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99... and select only the voice guidance language you plan to use.
2.Delete the custom pois from your gps and re-install them back after doing the map install.

Still the same problem.

I read all the above mails and tried loading the Map updatae on my C340 again. I noted the message that pop up. It says 'The required memory for storing maps is missing from your GPS. If your GPS uses a programmable data card, check to make sure it is installed properly.'

Unless I put the SD card, maps did not load. I put the SD card and then maps load. But now, everytime I open the GPS and put an address, it asks maps 2008 or Alaska, Alberta, etc. How can I combine both into one.

Maps c340

I guess you removed the custom pois before installing map update? Not sure why you are having a problem. No one else has posted with a problem that I know of.Not sure favorites would cause a problem but how many favoites do you have on your gps?

Turn on your gps and go to settings the little wrench at the bottom of the screen.Touch map then map info at the bottom.See if you have City Navigator North America NT 2009[1] if you do put check mark in it and remove check mark from 2008 maps.Reboot gps.If 2009 maps not there and the sd card is large enough to hold the maps.Put sd card in a card reader and load maps to it.

I don't know

about the 340 and memory. But, the 330 definitely didn't have enough memory. There is a thread on this site that tells you step by step how to put either USA maps or Canada maps on a SD card and it works automatically.

LOAD FULL 2008 NORTH AMERICA MAP on the C330 and SD CARD

I did exactly what Bandaid did..
I played around with my C330 for a while, i was even able to install the USA maps to the SD card Via the GPS, using the "MapInstall" program. But that took long and was quite annoying.

So for my fellow C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.

Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330 (duh)
2 - 512mb SD card (You can get a bigger card, but why waste more money)
3 - SD card reader (Fellow member said he was able to use his HP camera, which is SD card compatible to read the card.)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America

What to DO:

1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - I believe the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)

4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"

5 - Open the folder called "img"

6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)

7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"

8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)

9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)

10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU" file to --> "gmapsupp" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)

11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.

12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.

Test it out, when you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.

I hope this helps anyone that might be having problems.

I saved this info for future help.

The problem many of you

The problem many of you folks are running into is that in the update process, for whatever reason, the old maps are being left on the unit, as opposed to being erased. That's a problem, and it's easily fixed.

Check out the following link, which is dedicated to the StreetPilot 2720, which has this very same problem, a problem that has now been resolved. This will allow you to completely delete your old maps, making plenty of room for your new maps. The C340 has plenty of memory for the entire CN NA NT 2009 mapset; the C330 will need to have a partial mapset copied to the internal memory, and the remainder copied to an SD card. In any case, the original (read: antiquated) mapset will be completely erased, resolving several of the issues raised in this thread.

Note that you will need MapSource installed, plus Garmin's free WebUpdater application.

If your Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2009 UPDATE DVD won't install because you don't have a previous full version installed in MapSource, simply open 'My Computer', locate the DVD with the Garmin disc, right-click on it, select 'Explore', then browse until you find the file named "CNNANT2009Update_ENU.msi" (or something like that... ). Now, double-click it! This will install CN NA NT 2009 into MapSource without checking whether or not there was a previous version installed.

This process, of course, requires that you have a proper 25-character unlock code for your GPSr/mapset combo. If you own the DVD, though, you should already have that in your possession.

GOOD LUCK!
