Welcome

Hi there welcome to the community, your going to love your GPS. The two links below will help you get started here at the Poi-Factory.

A couple reviews:
http://reviews.cnet.com/best-gps/

Of course if you ask that question in a Garmin thread you not going to get a realistic answer you have to know that. There are other threads that will tell you theirs is the best also.

I really recommend a review site that gives stats rather than jaded opinions.

Garmin Vs others

I have tried a few but I'm sold on Garmin at least as far as it's routing algorithms are concerned.

Garmin Vs Others

I too have tried others, Magellan and Tom Tom and will stick with Garmin. There have been some minor problems with the Nuvis but I think Garmin has a handle on them and they will be corrected. You made a good decision, the 265T is one of the newer ones with a lot of good stuff on them. Check here and on the Garmin web site for all the goodies associated with your unit.

Garmin Vs Other Brands

Garmin compared to the other brands out there seems to be the best out there.I personally have the Garmin Nuvi 255W and compared to the previous Tom Tom I had it is a lot better. Its easy to use and gets you from point A to B with little button clicking, which is good when you are distracted driving. I say you should stick with your Garmin.

Garmin Rules

I have tried Garmin, TomTom and various PDA/Cell Phone versions, and to date, Garmin is the most efficient and reliable. My experience with their customer service has also been excellent.

A Consumers Report Best Buy

The new Consumers Report (Dec 2008) rates GPS navigators. They don't rate the 265t, but do rate the 255, 255W, 200W, 250W, 200, 250, and 270 all as best buys. The Nuvi 880/850/860 was rated with overall highest score.

I am not trying to be sarcastic or condescending, however why do you ask a question like this after you spent your money ?

Explanation WOW!

becuase I,ve 90 days through the place I,ve puchased my gps like a free trial and if im not pleased guess what 90 day guarantee no questions asked but it is good to get feedback from experienced GPS users. Thanks for your feedback.????

Good Choice

I too, have tried the Tom Tom (very poor directions, had me going down little used dirt roads in my area). I liked my Magellan 1400, but it did not have all the features that I wanted. My Nuvi 255W does a great job. (especially when you compare features vs price of other GPS units)

Dirt Roads

I went on a trip last winter with my Nuvi 205w and missed my regular turn, well it rerouted me to the next available route to get to my destination and I probably should have missed that one also, it was 10 miles of unpaved road.

Previous Mio C310 owner

Well,
Garmin is better because-
* Customization (vehicles, voice)
* The POI and red light cameras work better.
* Editing and deleting temporary POI is great. The Mio had you dump the whole lot.
* Much more memory

Mio is better because.
* Faster GPS acquisition
* In 30 secs I've got accuracy to 2 meters. Garmin is 50 to 150 feet.
* It keeps detail in 3d mode. The Garmin reduces to a squiggly line. To get cross street detail you have to magnify and then these chunky secondary roads show up.
It's a little unnerving to stop at a 4 way and the Garmin has you in the middle of a no detail line (or so it seems).

Pros & Cons

I know that this post is too late to help IAMCORREY, but I'm submitting it in case anyone else is reading this node prior to making a purchase.

I am really impressed yet disappointed with Garmin & my 765T... let me 'splain.

The Garmin's design, both product & UI, is top notch. It's simple to use, easy to understand & complimentary to any auto interior. However, their quality is lacking, at least in the 765. I'm currently waiting for Garmin to return my unit for the third time since Christmas. The first time it had a VERY bad touch screen (they told me to return the unit to Amazon), the second went back after one of their software updates wiped out all the internal address information (the Garmin tech couldn't find a way to resolve it so he offered a replacement), & that third unit would only hold a charge for a few moments no matter how long it had been charged. This time they're repairing it & sending it back (they claim I'll get my device back & not a refurbished unit).

The execution of their Bluetooth handsfree phone feature is simply bad. My wife & I both have 765's (hers is original although her touchscreen is borderline but not bad enough to go through the hassle) & if you count that I've technically had 3, I've tested this feature on (4 )765's & it's been the same on all of them. It works, but the sound quality is horrible.

Another check in the plus column for their customer service which is polite & genuine. On the downside, I've spent about $30 in return shipping & have been without my GPS for about a month total over those 3 returns.

All of that being said, I'm still pulling for Garmin & hope that this unit, when it arrives, works. I'm not looking for perfection, simply a unit that works reasonably well.
