Thanks for the warning

So sorry to hear that happened to you. I would have probably succumb to the same problem if you didn't warn us. I hope you will be able to get this resolved quickly.

Dead 760

FWIW, my 750 went dead like that about six months or so ago (except I hadn't just used web updater). I fiddled with it for some time and it responded to nothing (on-off switch, screen reset, master reset, connecting/disconnecting to cigarette lighter, USB connection to computer etc etc). I was then part way through a long cross continental trip and pretty well resigned myself to purchasing a backup GPS unit. I was about to give up for good, but after leaving it overnight, I tried one last time to get some life out of it. Finally, and to my surprise, it suddenly responded when I simply moved the slider switch to the off position twice (turn off, turn on). I'm sure I tried everything with that switch before but????? It's worked fine with lots of use ever since. I think the problem might have been related to the on/off switch somehow (stuck in lock mode?), but don't know.

No problems here

Prior to seeing your posting, I had applied the MSN update, and updated the MSN receiver successfully.

So far all is working. I guess I am fortunate.
Sorry you had an issue.

Keep us posted on Garmin's response!

me too

Same thing happened with my folk's Nuvi 750. Strange!!

Good to know

That is good to know. Thanks and good luck!!

I updated my Nuvi 760 with

I updated my Nuvi 760 with MSN firmware 3.20. The only problem I had after the upgrade was no trafic updates, weather, movie and news info got downloaded but no traffic. I had to resent MSN receiver with a pin. There is a reset hole on the side. After reset, I got traffic back in 5 minutes. Other than that I did not experience any problem with MSN upgrade. After the webupdate, when you plug in your MSN reciever, it downloads the software on your nuvi. SO it looks like it got stuck at that point.

No Problems

Just installed firmware update.Iv`e had no problems yet.Turned the unit off and on a few times. I have a
760 also.

Same here with 750

I updated to MSN 3.2 and lost traffic. All other MSN data was there. I called MSN - they said they had many reports of this happening, but I'd need to call Garmin for any resolution.

Seeing this post this morning, I tried the reset button. I had to reactivate my MSN subscription, but after the activation was recognized, traffic was back.

I also own the FM traffic receiver and traffic was not working on it either after the update. It's not handy at the moment, so I haven't tried it now that MSN is working again.

Using FM Traffic and MSN Direct Traffic

Yikes, after reading yalls' entries. Maybe I won't try to use the GDB 55 receiver. Which traffic program is better? Sent a question to Garmin support today about using both traffic programs and am waiting for a response.

I updated my 770 with the

I updated my 770 with the msn too, just because it was there and I hadn't seen this post. Everything seems to be ok so far....keeping my fingers crossed.

What's the question?

If it's 'Can I use both receivers with my unit?' then the answer is yes. (Only one at a time, of course.) I have both receivers that I use on my 750.

The traffic coverage truly depends on where you are. Here in Charlotte, until recently, I've been more pleased with the FM traffic coverage. With some of the recent updates, the MSN traffic seems to be catching up. If they're about the same in your area, then it comes down to the extra features (gas prices, weather, etc.) They have been useful at times, but I could live without them.

Yes, you can use both receivers. Garmin's last update 4.60 supports both receivers. I live in Toronto, about month ago, MSN have improved their coverage big time and my FM traffic is no where close to MSN coverage. As you said, it all depend on covearge in a given area.

my update went...umm smoothly

I updated my 760, all went ok except having to reset the msn receiver and reactivating my account

Flight Status

If only we could have that feature for the 760.

Updated here

Just updated my 780, but it appears it won't show the flight status/weather radar. I wonder why it let me do the update when it won't work with a 780...

We Do

Drew,

If you're referring to MSN Direct you 'do' have the capability with the 760. You just have to purchase the MSN receiver (check eBay) and, of course, pay for the subscription.

Cheers wink

Problems!

I have a nuvi 255 and updated to the latest firmware 4.80 and downloaded the MSN traffic receiver update. All went well - until I realised that I was no longer getting traffic info. The traffic icon was not appearing on the screen.

I called Garmin customer support who told me that their engineers are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. It was suggested that the MSN receiver not be connected for about 3 days to allow the internal receiver battery to drain. I was told this would probably solve the problem.

Time will tell ...

@ ajhope

The lack of transmitted data can be alleviated by resetting the MSN Direct Receiver GDB 50 via the reset hole on the side of the unit.

With the GDB 55, there is NO reported reset hole but the same can be accomplished by reactivating your MSN Direct service:

If you have GDB 50 then you can reset it but if you have GDB 55 then may be not. If GDB 50, then there is a hole on the right side, use paer pin and press it for 30 seconds or so. It will reset your GDB 50. You may have re-activate your msn subscription.

I think he meant the flight status and weather radar - those aren't available on the 7x0. (At least, not yet - I'm hopeful that they'll add these features to these units before they all get discontinued.)

Another one with no traffic data

I also updated the software for the Nuvi 760 and have lost traffic data. To be more precise, it seems that the receiver signal strength seems to stay red for at least 20 minutes and then it starts to receive traffic info & turns green, but the signal strength wavers back and forth from green to red every few minutes. I tried the reset, but only pushed it for a second or so. I will try the 30 second reset as suggested above. I placed 2 calls the MSN, they resent their signal, but it didn't help. Just another data point...

I updated my 880 and

I updated my 880 and initially I lost the traffic but after a few minutes elapsed, everything back to normal

Traffic stopped until reset

Had issues only with traffic.... weather, gas prices etc started updating after an hour, but had to use the 'pin reset' to get traffic back.

Still hoping they'll eventually let us see moving radar on the 7X0 series!

Larry

Mine seems OK so far after

Mine seems OK so far after reset

Nuvi 780

I too recently upgraded and thus had no traffic since then. I got the activation code off my unit and went to the above link to resend the activation signal. After a few minutes I went out and checked, traffic is back up again! Thanks for the tips, everyone.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I have the nuvi 5000 and had got the msn update and now i have lost the msn butterfly.garmin has sent me a new GDB 50 But i still don't have my msn going to call garmin again tomorrow to see what is next

Probably a stupid question.

Probably a stupid question. How will you know when it has taken the reset, if it can take up to 30 seconds or so.

Thanks

I didn't see anything

I didn't see anything different happen on the screen, but I did the 30 second reset. After about 30 minutes, traffic appears to be working.

Didn't know if the screen would change for a second or so to let you know it took. I also reactivated my MSN, so maybe that is what made it come back.

NOOOOOOOOOO

after all garmin send me a new gbd 50 and that still did not work they had to send me a new unit so now i have a new nuvi 50000

new nuvi 5000 and nuvi 200w

Did you reactivate your subscription? I also had my susbscription stop working just recently and a visit to the web site had a link to reactivate the susbscription. I had not updated the MSN software. I had the impression from talking to the MSN support people that they just had a glitch in their system and some people got turned off. A click on the reactivate link turns it back on again.
