This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.
Have fun...
This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Thanks for the story John. It brought a tear to my eye (actually a lot of tears). Today is my oldest son's birthday. He is spending it in Virginia doing special training and leaves for Iraq sometime next month. I'm flying out to see him this weekend and his wife and son are going next weekend.
Guess I'll go dry my eyes now.
I plan to live forever. So far, so good.

You should abolish the caps!
THEY SHOULD ABOLISH ALL TIME CHANGES...WHO NEEDS IT TO BE LIGHT OUT AT 9PM IN JULY AND PITCH BLACK AT 4PM IN JANUARY....
I guess that would be me!
I would much rather have the long summer days, In the winter I tend to less out doors when it's cold anyway. Not that I don't do the winter things, but it's hard to go for a walk on a beach under the stars when it's 20 degrees or have a deck party when theres 4 inches of snow on the deck.
I realize that there are parts of North America that are warm in the winter, However those parts are far and far between when looking at the big picture.
So for me:
Warm = Daylight (Summer)
Cold = Not so much Daylight (Winter)

Why not CAPS !!!
You should abolish the caps!
Does a person using caps hurt your eyes by causing you to read louder??
This supposedly protocol of CAPS meaning SHOUTING is ridiculous. If a person wants to use caps I find it no harder to read than lower case. Maybe because I was taught to be able to read both ways. ( called Ambidextrous Reading or simply AR ).
And if the "SHOUTING" gets too bad for you, maybe you could squint your eyes a little and lower the volume.

Caps
It has never been a big deal to me about people using capitol letters either. Not sure why it would be called shouting.
It has long been a standard that CAPS is a why of shouting. When making a point via e-mail or other electronic message it is a way of emphasizing something of improtance or voicing concern. Otherwise there is no other way of expressing emotion in a text environment, except of course using Smileys!!
Use Words For Expressions

Just making a comment on caps.Well aware of the standard and use it.But still no big deal to me.Lots of older people getting into computers and may find it easier for them.Would not want to make a comment to turn them off.Not sure why it was necessary to give a English lesson.

Perhaps I could have stated it better by saying "Emphasizing" instead of "Expressing".
Thank you, I am familiar with a Thesaurus and do use one. I do have an extensive vocabulary.
Just because of a misuse of a word does not make me ignorant of the usage of the English Language.
I was trying to make light of the subject of use of all Caps, but thanks for the insult.
Dial-up AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
I'm traveling, visiting relatives and stuck with a 44KB dial-up internet connection. UGH
I miss my broadband connection (aircard price plans are too expensive considering I don't find myself in this situation very often).

How 'bout your cellphone as a modem
The right cell phone, with the appropriate feature code on a plan with a carrier offering tethering would give you much better than dial-up at the worst, and near broadband in more & more places. And if you have a cell provider that allows it - you can add the tethering to your plan during the bill cycle you plan to be away from home.

The protocol used on message boards has been around for some time, and the use of CAPS means your SHOUTING, and thats whether you like it or not and makes the person using them seem ridiculous. including your In FaCt I CaN ReAd ThIs EaSiLy line.
If you USE ALL CAPS in your email or message board posts, you will immediately make yourself seem inexperienced or ignorant. Most experienced computer users consider the use of all capital letters to be the Internet equivalent of shouting.
For those of us who spend a lot of time hanging out in cyberspace, messages written in all capital letters are reminiscent of trying to hold a conversation in which one person is shouting every word while others are speaking at a normal volume.
Also, a message written in all capitals is harder to read. In blocks of text rendered in all capitals, words lose their "shape" because they are all the same height. Each word becomes a uniform rectangle. Most people read and quickly recognize words by looking at their overall shape by scanning them. We do not read by visualizing words one letter at a time.
Capital letters are best left for their intended usage and, sparingly, to emphasize a particular word or phrase.
If you are new to the ways of the Internet, this restriction on the use of capital letters might seem silly and you might dismiss it as unimportant. However, using all capitals in your messages will adversely affect how people perceive you online.

Education group opposed the change
However, the reason for the time changes is to make it so that it is always getting light no later than 7 am. A safety consideration for kids going to school.
While I agree that making it light when the kids are going to school is a good idea, I wonder why a national education group (not sure if it was the NEA or not) opposed the change to push it a week later/2 weeks earlier.

Bah.. The only problems for this years world series:
1) The economy, elections, housing problems and gas prices got people thinking very little about baseball.
2) Nobody really cares about Philly
Don't get me wrong. I love baseball. I don't think it would have mattered if Boston or a big name team was in the WS this year. Too many distractions for people to really care about it this year.
Hmmmm
Always light at 7am? That would take more than one time change a year... Darn those irregularly-shaped orbits.
"For those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know."
Daylight Savings and CAPS
I believe that having Daylight Savings time using ALL CAPS would be very bad all around.
Now - using ALL CAPS in STANDARD TIME would be alright.
BobDee - well said regarding the use of using all caps. A couple of quick searches turned up a lot of information on the history of using all caps, including "netiquette" which widely discourages the use of all caps.
Tauted as a very bizarre world series win, taking 50 some hours to complete the game with a two day rain delay, the Phillies have come out on top. I guess that it's time to rule out the Cubs or White Sox as contenders. I hear that my boyhood team, the Cleveland Indians, has been mathematically eliminated from the 2009 playoffs. Just kidding - I still root for them. (Just as I still root for the Browns on the off years that they play against the Bears.) Of course, this drives my wife nuts, being one of the biggest Bears fans - not a football fan - a Bear fan.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .
wireless & The Rays
No wifi on your laptop?
Yes, it has wireless, but no wireless router around to jump on. I would have to drive to a hotspot.
Congratulations to the Phillies! The Rays season is over, but they had a fantastic season after spending 10 years in the cellar. Hopefully, they can continue to build the team from here and at least be contenders in the AL East. They made us in Tampa Bay, proud!

Rays Nice story..
It was a nice story and quite frankly as an Orioles fans it was a nice change of pace from Beans and Yanks to the Rays..
It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.
RAIN
Yeah!!!! It looks like its finally gonna rain here in California. We are SO dry. Sure hope for some good moisture.
If you dont know where you're going, any road will get you there!!
10 Years?
The Rays season is over, but they had a fantastic season after spending 10 years in the cellar.
10 years!! Try being a Cubs Fan and having a 100 year drought. It aint easy being a Cubs fan.
Sorry, not trying to take anything from the Phillies or Rays.
Congrats to both teams, one for winning and one for making it to the World Series. I wish the Cubs would have made it past one round of the Playoffs.
congratulations to the Philadelphia Philly's

Ya got love when the Yankees have a losing season, no matter how much money the Steinbrenner family spends. Actually outside New York Nobody really cares about the Yankees, I personally think that money should be split evenly among all teams so all teams can compete, the way it stands now you have four major market teams and then the rest of them.
George Steinbrenner is a native Clevelander, and sends Millions of dollars in to our city for various things and purposes city wide (just to mention one, stables unused mounted Police Horses), I still can't get past the point that he alone is responsible for the high salaries in sports, by buying his first world series ring. So when the big teams choke you have to love it.
So congratulations to the Philadelphia Philly's and their fans, and to the fans of the Rays be proud, and get something going to build a real ball park you know one thats not inside.

If it can't be the Os (and apparently, it CAN'T), I'm happy for anyone else. Rays would have been nice tho.

In the News: Brazil markets GPS lingerie, 'Find Me If You Can'
From http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=081031005623.up60zo7...
Lingerie maker Lucia Iorio says her new design targets the modern, techno-savvy woman, but the GPS-equipped "Find Me If You Can" line has raised the hackles of feminists who call it a 21st-century chastity belt.
The lingerie combo consists of lace bodice, bikini bottom and faux pearl collar, with the GPS device visibly nestled in the see-through part of the bodice next to the waist.
"This collection... is a wink to women and a challenge to men because, even if she gives him the password to her GPS, she can always turn it off," Iorio told AFP.
"She can be found only if she wants to."
"It's not a modern chastity belt. Some men think they can keep tabs on their girlfriends with it, but they're wrong," she added.
Unconcerned with the controversy her new collection has raised, Iorio is also dismissive of the global financial crisis and its adverse impact on luxury items sales since the GPS lingerie retails from a cool 800 dollars, with a standard Global Positioning System, to 1,100 dollars with a more advanced model.
So how many has she sold?
Iorio admits to selling only a few so far, but is full of optimism for the future.
"Some women are now interested in buying it for protection," she said, adding that in a violence-prone country like Brazil her GPS lingerie should soon be selling briskly.
There is a product pic at the link...
Protection??? Huh?

So congratulations to the Philadelphia Philly's and their fans, and to the fans of the Rays be proud, and get something going to build a real ball park you know one thats not inside.
If game 5 had been played played inside at Tropicana Field, it wouldn't have been suspended due to the rain. In this economy, I don't agree with the Rays owners trying to get a new, outdoor ball park. The Trop has undergone major renovations and will serve them well for years to come - IMO.
With the summer rain storms we have here in Florida, an outdoor ball park would have lots of rain & lightning delays during the regular season. Not to mention, the Trop is air conditioned!

Hmmmmm Miami does fine even minor league Orlando even though they lost there team. all the domes are being dumped. Rain is part of the game not air conditioning. Walkways in the outfield in the feild of play aren't normal either. The scheduled days off are for makeup games works fine everywhere else look at the Twinkies they are dumping their dome for outdoors, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati didn't build domes and they get cold and snow at both ends of the season with rain in between. Tropicana Dome is the wost dome ever built for Baseball unless walkways in the outfield and flying fake grass are regulation for Tampa Baseball rules. I hope the next time the rays make it to the Show and go for the big Sausage that they have a real ball park.
On another subject, I am also very happy that the citrus league is being busted up for spring training and the cactus league is being repopulated, maybe now we can get the big stars ( 1st string)to travel with there respective teams, because they don't in Florida, nothing is worse for tourists than to travel to a spring training game and the visiting team only has if your lucky 2nd string players.

It's kind of scary. Must be Halloween!! Have a happy fright night!
