POI's showing on MapSource question

I have plotted a route from Massachusetts to Naples, Florida that I have not taken before. Is there anyway that I can get my custom POI's to show along the route on MapSource. The Find function in MapSource does not find the custom POI's either. I have downloaded the POI's to MapSource using the POI Loader.

POI's showing on MapSource question

Do you know the name of the folder/file where you saved the POI's? I'm fairly new at this, too, but I think they're saved as Waypoints in MapSource.

Hope some of the more experienced check in soon to see this 'cause they'll answer this question in a heartbeat!

In order for MapSource to be able to open your Custom POI files, they must be in GPX format. MapSource cannot currently read CSV nor GPI files.

So, get a program like POI Edit to convert the CSV files to GPX and then you can open them directly in MapSource.

Thank you

Thank you. Thats what I needed to know.

Show POI on map

I believe if you want to use your POI files that have been converted to GPX on a map already loaded into Mapsource then you first need to transfer the GPX file to your device. Then using the Transfer tab in Mapsource select "Receive from device" and select your POI file that was converted to GPX.

MapSource

will open gpx files that are on your computer. You can then do a select all and save. Then open a new file in MapSource that contains your route. You can then paste the first saved file by doing a right click and paste. You will then have the route map with it's favorites and the gpx file favorites merged together.

Need more help please

I finally converted all the cvs files to gpx. I found that by saving Loves, Flying J etc as an Excel xml spreadsheet file, then using POIEdit, I was able to convert them to gpx. I have loaded them into the 2720 and back into MapSource. No luck. I also tried to select all and save. No luck. They work great in the GPS, but not in MapSource. Any other sugestions.

mapsource

In mapsource, the pois have to be included in the favorites list before they show up.

If you first load the gpx file in mapsource, then save all the favorites by doing a edit select all and right click save. You then plug in your gps and upload to mapsource. That will erase the first gpx file and just have the gps stuff in it. Then left click click on the bottom of the favorites column. Then right click and paste. The files that were in your first gpx file will be added to the favorites that were on your gps unit.

It works for me. I've tried it twice now. If you have trouble with it, it's probably my simplified instructions. Give a holler and I'll try explaining it again.

So if they don't work in Mapsource, how did you load them onto the 2720? (by copying the .gpx file directly to it?)

Do you get error messages loading them into Mapsource? (either directly from your PC, or using Mapsource's 'Transfer' function, from the 2720)

Does the GPX file pass the official validation test?

I loaded the gpx files to the 2720 with POI Loader.

I do not get any error messages anywhere.

Great link, but I am going to have to try that when I have more time. I have quite a few gpx files to check. I bookmarked it.

.

You can't send Custom POIs from the GPS unit to MapSource. You must open the individual GPX files in MapSource and copy and paste all of them into one file.

Thank you

Thank you. That's what I was missing. It works great. Being able to see Custom POI's in MapSource is great resource for anyone planning new routes by motorhome.
