Garmin Quarterly Map update

Has anyone heard more on the possible Quarterly Update on Garmin maps and how much they may charge.

I have been out of town this past week with my dad in the hospital. Was in critical condition but is improving pretty well now.

Thanks,

No i havent heard about

No i havent heard about that. I don't see them doing that just cause of cost, but I have been wrong before.

Glad that father is doing better.

Early 2009

According to another forum, the quarterly maps won't be available until early 2009.

When they will presumably

When they will presumably issue the Spring 2011 maps. This stuff is getting a bad as the dates on magazines.

Are these update free?

Are these update free?

haha

Alas, no. They generally cost around $100. Unless you live in an urban area (or you go to an urban area) a lot, it's probably not worth it.

PS. First post. smile

Updates

Quarterly updates sound like a good idea from Garmin's point of view. Think of the profit if they can get suckers to update quarterly instead of yearly. Mine is a couple of years old and I have only found one out of date street anywhere I have traveled.

Nope not free

Free? Heck No, Map updates are never free, what seems to be coming in to play now is the frequency of them.
All Gps Company's charge for updates, if your lucky your new unit will either have the newest maps or qualify for an update.

Slowly but surely they are running out of suckers!

I would hope that when they say Quarterly, they took a page from Navigon FreshMaps, and they will only charge a one time fee, like $70.00 for three years worth of quarterly updates??
Who knows The competition is heating up in Garmin's corner, they have to do something to save the farm.

Garmin Quarterly Updates

My nuvi 750 is only a couple months old and I have already found it out-of-date in several instances. It takes me on older roads and knows nothing about newer roads that have been in existance for a year or more. A quarterly update would be great. The 3-year subscription for $70 sounds fine with me. I would do it. Maybe Garmin will take the hint.

Too bad these aren't free.

Map UpDates

I have seen the map updates over the past two years. Not much changes and it appears that the updates are for the interstates more than the residential streets. My brother-in-law has lived in a neighborhood for the last 3 years and they still have not updated the maps.I have emailed Navteq several times about certain neighborhoods but they still have not appeared on the most recent update. RIP OFF.

Along with the map update dont you get updated poi's

No

No

You do get updated built in

You do get updated built in POIs with new GARMIN maps. I know since I see many news with NA NT 2009 compared to the very old NA NT v8 I previously had.

a3sunraj,
I don't know about Magellean maps but you may be correct.

POIs in Quarterly update

I believe the question relates to the new, quarterly updates. If they are providing updates only, it would be interesting if they could provide a listing of the new/changed pois. In that way, we would analyze the changes (and value) being added.
