Chit Chat Thread for the week of October 13, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

I sure hope the new week brings you health and energy to make your life much easier. We all know that the last couple weeks tested your spirit with illness, and I hope it's behind you now.

Nope, still sick. Not as sick as the last couple of weeks, I just have a nasty cough that is hanging on.

Hopefully I will be back to normal by the end of the week.

Miss POI

Holding! Waiting to set up my 401K account so I can view it online. I think they just put the automated stuff up, and took a 3 week vacation.

pets

I noticed that there is a post now that lists motels that welcome pets. How about a list of those that do not welcome pets. I, for one, will not chose a place of lodging where I can share a bed with fleas left from the last occupants. Snakes, spiders and goldfish are OK, but for me- leave Fido at home.

Atlanta Gas Prices Coming Down

I paid 2.88 a gallon this morning. The price is finally coming down in North Georgia. Although I did still see several stations in the 3.25 to 3.49 range.

Recession=less economic activity=less need for fuel. Don't get used to the price decline, unless you expect the recession to last a decade (um, maybe that could happen).

Fleas, your kidding right?
If I were you, I would be more concerned about what you can't see at all. The first thing I recommend you do is, throw that comforter on the floor, it's probably more dangerous than any flea.

The professionals use ultraviolet lights to see the invisible stains from well you know, but a black light is close enough to the wave length to make you shutter with terror, if you were to turn off the lights in just about any motel room in the world then turn on the purple light.
Adults, children and baby's do all kinds of things on the bed, chairs and even on the counter tops, out of need or pleasure.

Try it in a motel room and you'll never sleep in one again. forget the Fleas

http://tinyurl.com/4yrarw

It's easier for you to find a Motel that does not allow dogs than one that does so a POI for that wouldn't even be needed. However try to find a Motel or Hotel that Wash's the comforters regularly or at all.. or shampoos the rug, disinfects the TV remote or the telephone. Now thats a POI worth the time.

6 Tips for a cleaner hotel room experience

So now that you’re totally grossed out, here are some ways you can improve the cleaniness of your hotel room:

1. Remove the hotel bedspread. Tests showed this to be the most germ-laden thing in the whole room.
2. Travel with sanitizing wipes. Wipe things that people touch a lot, such as the phone and TV remote control.
3. Wash your hands. Chances are the last guy didn't.
4. Look for rust-colored stains on sheets and bedspreads. It can be a sign that bedbugs are present.
5. Remember Mom’s advice, never walk barefoot in a hotel room.

Update: Travelodge employees a professional bed tester. He tests hotel room mattresses, pillows, room lighting, and sound proofing. The question is, does he have a black light?

Fleas?

I cleaned hotel rooms in my youth...

We NEVER cleaned the comforters. I think they all went out once a year (maybe).

I even saw employees (while training me) re-make a bed that only looked 'slightly' slept in, for the next occupant!

I watched them rifle through purses and steal personal items that they knew the occupant would be too embarassed to report (ie 'personal pleasure' items and marijuana, etc.).

Eck!

I've got that crud that is

I've got that crud that is going around myself and have HAD IT for nearly 2 1/2 weeks now! It just won't let go!! The worst part of it has been the fatigue and confusion. Yep, the doctor told me a lot of folks are complaining about the confusion part of it. You'll be doing something and totally zone out as to what you are doing or where you are. VERY SCARY stuff!! Sort of gives one an insight into what Alzheimer's might be like.

So other than that, life's a peach.

Yep, all part of this bug

Yep, all part of this bug and a lot of people have it. When I went into Santa Rosa to see my doctor last week the place was full with people that have it. On my way home I took a road that I've taken HUNDREDS of times and for a few seconds I was like, "where am I?" Let me tell ya, that freaked me out!!!

Another thing about this bug has been no fever or a very little one if any. I've never had a bug like this one before and I can definitely say, I DON'T want another like it any time soon.

up finally

Well, the market closed up 936.42. And oil is floating around $70 per barrel, and a gallon of gas in my neck of the woods is about $3.81 for regular. Now let's see...my best guess is that as the market rebounds, the cost of a barrel of oil will rise as will the cost of a gallon of gas.

Anybody want to take that bet? mad

Niiiiiiiiice!!! My friend just came back from a cruise up to see the changing of the colors on the East Coast. Not only were they rained out by the remnants of the hurricane, but he and his wife got scabies from the bed sheets on board ship.

I had always wondered how a computer caught a virus… Think spraying it and the area with rubbing alcohol will help? Would an Apple (Mac) be less likely to catch one? Calling Geek Squad..

Check it out...

A family member sent this to me...just something to make you smile during the tough times!!!I guess I made the right investment!

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you will have $49.00 today.
If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you will have $33.00 today.
If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you will have $0.00 today.
But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer and then turned in the aluminum cans for a recycling refund, you will have received $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.
A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year.
Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.
That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!
