Speed Warnings Unwanted

I have entered my own POI's from a CSV file. Many times I get speed warnings, but I did not include any formating.

my files have four columns
Name
Lat
Lon
Desc.

The last one I have placed "'s in so the address and phone will be on separate lines. I don't have any spaces between "" and is in the following format:

"6 New England Executive ParkBurlington, MA 01803(781) 273-3388"

Are the lack of spaces causing the speed warnings, or is it some info in the garmin 260W that add them?

the warnings are usually for 9 mph.

Note, in this cass, I did not have a "" between the zip and phone. is this the reason? normally I would have, but I sometimes forget to add them, like this one

"100 Cummings Ctr # 463E""Beverly, MA 01915""(978) 236-1177"
(I'n not sure if this one gave me warnings as it only happens sometimes)

RE: Speed Warnings

Check your file. Does it have any verbiage with the word: "Speed" in any of the line items or in the POI File name? Also, "@" followed by a number will tell the GPS to alert you to a speed amount.

Take pleasure in all the small things...like my Garmin 350 ;-)~

You have no idea how long it

You have no idea how long it took me to figure out why my Nuvi always alerted me of "Speedway" gas stations!!! The letters speed anywhere in a file name will set off an alert, even if you turn it off via poi loader.

Do you have numbers (ie numerals in the file name)? Numbers in the file name will be interpreted as speed data.

Speed Alerts

If you're getting Speed alerts (as opposed to Proximity alerts), there are only three possibilities:-

  1. You've used POILoader's Manual mode. Not the sort of thing that's easily done by accident!
  2. The POI Name (3rd parameter in csv i/p) - contains an "@" followed by one or more digits.
  3. The filename contains one or more digits.

#3 is the most likely, I think.

Note: The keyword "Speed" in the filename does not create a Speed alert; it creates a Proximity alert!

No for 99% of them. And definitely not for the one that caused me to ask this question.

Also, my other columns only contain letters and numbers, no @ signs or other characters besides the quotation marks

Your files are not literally laid out like that, are they? Instead of lon,lat,Name,Desc...

Can you give a sample, for one that does create the speed warning? (You don't need to drive to the POI to find out - you can see the alert information, when browsing the POIs on the unit).

No, they are the columns

No, they are the columns (without headings) in excel. Next time it happens I will post it since I deleted the one I knew did it. As I recall though, the columns were

Column 1 BAE Systems
Column 2 42.483
Column 3 71.2098
Column 4 "6 New England Executive ParkBurlington, MA 01803(781) 273-3388

CSV Columns

Column 4 "6 New England Executive ParkBurlington, MA 01803(781) 273-3388

The columns should be in this order:
Longitude, Latitude, Name, Description.

For this entry it should read:
-71.2098
42.483
BAE Systems
6 New England Executive Park Burlington, MA 01803 (781) 273-3388

I usually provide a little more information in the 3rd or name field by including the city or area. In this case it would be BAE Systems - Burlington. That way when several pop up on the screen, I at least have a general idea where they are and can guesstimate if they are near my route.
