Nuvi 800 Series Update from 3.10 to 3.20

After upgrading 3.10 to 3.20, I noticed once I disconnected the unit from my PC that the unit was silent when I pressed all the buttons, so I decided to check on the music and sure enough no sound. So I shut down the unit and then attempted to restart, would you believe the unit would not boot up. After doing a reset and checking other tricks I knew to get it to boot up.. No luck. I was initially ticked off and felt I would have to send the unit back again. For some reason, I decided to remove the battery for a few minutes and then I put it back it, and sure enough, everything is working fine again. I have no idea why I decided to remove the battery but it worked. Saved a trip back to Garmin

I have a 7xx model, which has been having lots of problems caused by Garmin updates.

So it's nice to see that Garmin is spreading the love by screwing up the other models as well!!

My 880, well, I would throw a screaming hissy fit if it messed up here before I really really need to use it. So I'll wait a bit, to see if the same thing happens to the NEXT updater who tries it.

Sorry to hear that the 8XX series is having trouble after the update. Us 7XX users are having fits after updating to 4.0 then 4.1. I can't use TTS guidance any more, and have to use non-TTS English only. I've raised cane with Garmin, and they are in complete denial that their updates are the cause of the problems. Never should have updated!!

I've only had my Nuvi 880 for a little over a month. The darn price dropped almost $200.00 since then when I've checked www.nextag.com which is a good site to check online prices.

I have had a couple occasions when I've added POI, music or other files and the unit froze up. Removing the battery has always brought the Nuvi 880 back to life.

Well, I downloaded the update and attempted to install it manually. The update states its complete, However, I have the same version numbers as listed above.

Did you check the Garmin unit after the update to see what version you are running?.

I just got off the phone with Garmin, it seems the update doesn't work. Garmin said they should have it fixed within a day or two.

First Garmin won't let us backdate software.

I'm not going to let my Nuvi 880 go near that update until there is a certified clean bill of health stamped on it!

Or the pros on this site give the all clear. After waiting all this time to get one of these the last thing I want to hear after an update is “Sorry Dave, I can’t do that” Which would be a bummer since my name isn't Dave....

I am a firm believer that ignorance is bliss. When I installed the last update 3.10, I did not know enough to realize bad things can happen. Now that I do know, bad things WILL happen. I can wait. The more money I invest in the 880, and the more I use it, the harder it will be to lose the use of it.
