GPS-less jitters

Well, I'm heading to Watkins Glen in the Finger Lakes region of NY this weekend for a BMW motorcycle rally. Been there a dozen times, so it should be a no-brainer. But trying a different route this time, through back roads I'm not familiar with. And horror of horrors...no GPSr. I've been toying with getting a Zumo for the bike, but just never have gotten around to it. And with only a couple more months of riding weather, I'd rather wait until next spring to drop the bucks.

Anyone else ever experience this type of separation anxiety? I'm so used to having "Jack" in the car with me, even for quick trips into unfamiliar areas of the city, I'm not sure how I will handle having to be dependent on - God Forbid! - a paper map!

Let's hear your story.

Garmin 765T...Is it about the destination, or is it about the journey?

yea, i have the same

yea, i have the same problem. lent my dad my gps in june when he was going out west and ended up having to drive out to a friend's house for a bonfire and have never been there. printed maps off of mapquest and it felt like the old days. i always have this problem where i feel like i went to far and i decided to turn around. i pulled out my atlas and of course since it's a smaller town, the minor streets weren't there and the map the mapquest had was cut off on the destination. i saw where a street appeared on both and decided to go back and if i hit it, means i didn't go too far. as i decided to turn around, i had a feeling it would be the next street but decided to back track anyways. sure enough, turns out if i just went one more street over then i would have made it.

Withdrawal Symptoms

I've had to do without my Nuvi for a few days when I've lent it to a friend. It results in hand tremors, sweating and nightmares. Going through Nuvi withdrawal is like being a recovering alcoholic.

Take two shots

Since I am not a major user of my Nuvi I just take two shots of Jim Beam and then do what needs to be done smile

I was hoping that the two shots were not meant from Double Tap's pistol icon (displayed above the subject)

Even as we speak I'm going

Even as we speak I'm going thru some 'minor' withdrawls.
Right now the power cable/GTM is off at Garmin under an RMA. (The traffic reciever is not working very well.)
So..the 660 for the most part is down.

I've also let my parents borrow the 660 a few times. That will make ya nutz! Particularly when they are not gadget-types and can sometimes be hard on the gear.

But..there is at least some solice. I still have my trusty 350. Its always with me and has been rock solid since I got it.

As aside...
I discovered something with the 660.
Because the 660's power cable is off at garmin, I tried plugging in the 660 to the 350's cigarette power supple. Recall the 350's plug has a usb connection as opposed the propriatary connector on the 660.
When I plugged the 350's power into the usb on the 660 in the car, the display level went DIMMER. No matter how the display was set, it would always be dimmer on the 350's supply.
To confirm it wasnt a 'lack of power', I connected the 660 to its proper 'wall wart' power supply.
Same thing. When plugged to a power supply, thru the usb, it would go dimmER than normal.
It can't be a problem with the GPS itself because of course when connected to its normal cigarette PS or on battery, its nice and bright as it should be..
(shrug...)
