Chit Chat Thread for the week of August 25, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Not Leaving

My wife's sister & her Husband say they are not leaving this time. During Katrina, they lived in Jefferson Parish and their house suffered no real damage.

Now, they live in one of the houses we rehabed after Katrina - one that had about 7 ft of water in it, in Orleans Parish. They say they will go up into the attic and they have already put an axe up there in case they have to chop through the roof.

Just saw the Secretary of Homeland Security answering questions as he headed for the southern states that will probably be affected by this one. He indicated that if it heads for New Orleans again, evacuations will be mandatory, and that they will use the National Guard to force people onto transport out of the city. I don't think they are going to play this time if (God Forbid) it heads for New Orleans. Remember, last time they went door to door confiscating guns, so I guess if they want to pull you from your property, they will do it....

I have to say that sounds foolish to me!
Katrina flooded 80 per cent of the city and killed nearly 1500 people after breaching protective levees in 2005.
Tell them to get the hell out if their in line for a hit! Better safe than sorry, you can't replace a family member if the water was to rise above roof level.

WASHINGTON — The levees that ring New Orleans have been substantially fortified since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but the Crescent City is far from protected if Gustav or another large storm were to hit before 2011.

I'll pray for the people on the gulf coast, it's looks like it going to be a nasty one.

And everyone else bend over and grab your ankles because they are already closing the oil rigs in the gulf.

Hurricane's

The people of New Orleans were getting ready to acknowledge the 3d anniversery of Katrina which had to be canceled/ cut short because another hurricane is coming. Maybe somebody is trying to tell them something.

I agree with you, their decision seems foolish, but my brother-in-law is stubborn... and he's not even German, he's Irish. He's one of those diehard, born and raised in New Orleans people.

Could he and his friends not shoot at me again when I fly in on a RESCUE helicopter !

better idea ...

here's a better idea ... don't fly in!

after the destruction of Katrina, and the behavior exhibited in the aftermath ... if people don't leave for the next big one, it's unfair to expect people to put themselves at risk by flying in on rescue missions. stay home and take care of people that need and deserve your assistance and kindness!

AND

I have to seriously question spending billions in tax payer dollars to rebuild anything along that coast. I think we are all going to suffer if it becomes a Cat 5, because everybodys insurance rates will go up because the insurance companies were "Forced" to provide insurance to these people. I understand that they pay outrageous sums for the insurance, but the companies will still never recoop the cost of being forced to insure these people. I feel bad for people that live close to the coast arount the Gulf, but this is a life choice.

My 2 cents.........

Cat 4

I know it will change as it moves through the Gulf, but its reached Cat 4 strength.
