POI loading

I have a Garmin C340 unit and have a question. I've been experimenting with loading POIs into my unit and have run up a situation which I don't quiet understand. I can load Cracker-Barrel, Walmart, Pizza Hut, and Wendys into my unit easily (approximately 14,000 points) but if I try to add McDonalds (another 13,500) points it says it don't have enough space. However, I can add Cemeteries - Southeast and Walmart (approximately 44,000 points) to the system. I understand it takes some space to keep track of the different categories but I was wondering if all units operate this way.

Make room

Did you go through your unit and delete unnecessary files? (voices, foreign language help files, etc). If you know that there is plenty of space maybe there is a problem with the McDonalds file.

It's not necessarily

It's not necessarily how many points or locations you put in but the memory required. Many POI files take up a lot of memory because of all the text information in the files. Another thing that I've found is .gpx format requires more memory than .csv files.

Update: I just looked at Cracker Barrel file:
In .csv format it takes 60K of memory.
In .gpx format it takes 268K of memory.

I have modified many of the files I have downloaded by eliminating text I personally don't need like zip code and telephone number !

Just my observations and personal needs!

You can't make room on a c340 because it's not a 'usb mass storage device'. You can't get to the files. sad
