Security Location in 2D or 3D?

My Nuvi 260 arrives Monday; It is my 2nd GPS, but my first "ground" unit. My other one is an Aviation GPS...

I've been reading a lot of posts here, including the threads on the Security Location feature, the usefulness of the feature and the best locations to use for setting this on one's unit.

My question is does the location altitude matter? IOW, my office is a number of stories up in my building, so if I set up to have that as my security location, could someone come to the front door of my building and unlock the unit because the Long/Lat is within a 50 foot circle of my office or would they need to come up inside the building to be within a 50 foot *sphere*?

Adding the third dimension to choosing a security location would make it even harder for a thief to unlock the unit. I have not seen any comments about altitude in any of the discussions about this feature so far, but it'd be interesting to know if this will work.

I Doubt It

I would be surprised if the altitude information played any part in the security location. But I've seen stranger things.

Why don't you test it out by setting your security location in your office and then trying to override it on the ground floor. And then let us know the results.
