customize audio turn notification?

Is there any way to slightly extend the amount of distance the audio turn notifications are provided? My nuvi 350 sometimes tells me to turn at the last minute - to the point that there is no way to prepare for the turn. Sure this woudn't be much of a problem if I had one of those dash board holder thingies - but for right now my nuvi site in the passenger seat.

But either way, it would be helpful to get a notification sooner. Any ideas - or anyone experiencing similar problems?

How fast are you driving????

My 750 issues instructions long before a turn, and then again as you approach the turn. I've never had a problem.

Have you updated your firmware? Do the instructions lag if you change the map view?

Based upon what others have posted, this can be more of a problem when using the 3D map mode rather than one of the 2D map modes. Try switching to 2D and see if it makes a difference.

Turn announcements are related to speed and distance

I have both a 760 and 350 and have noticed that the turn announcement distances and whether it gives you two or three turn warnings or just one seems to be related to your speed. I don't know the exact speed threshholds, but it appears that if I am going less than 25-30 MPH I will often only get one turn announcement immediately before the turn. Both my units reliably offer turning instructions multiple times at faster speeds but very often give only one immediate warning if I'm going really slow.

Really, your best usage will be to have the Nuvi mounted where it can be easily seen and frequently checked. The turn arrow, distance to next turn icon and the green bar provide very useful guidance instructions that only take a quick glance when the Nuvi is mounted not too far from your normal line of sight. This is important and very useful information that you are missing out on by relying on voice prompts alone.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I've noticed something similar - when on the freeway I usually get 2-3 prompts way in advance. When driving on the streets, I usually get a notice when I'm less than 15 feet or so away from the turn.

I think I really should get that dashboard mount. I guess there isn't some technical way to adjust this at current (or at least none that I know of). The firmware and other related software is up-to-date. I've noticed this behaviour during the bulk of my street driving which is 25 - 35MPH.

Interesting... I never thought of it - I knew it was better on the freeways - but I never pieced that together until you mentioned it.
