Using POI Loader's Custom Folder option

in the context of loading multiple .gpi files into my Garmin 260W, it seems that using the "Custom Folder" option in POI loader would be an easy way to do it.
I created a couple of .gpi files in a folder, then just copied them to the Garmin POI folder on my unit, and they were available as custom POIs.

this seems a good way to do this without overwriting the POI.gpi file.

I know that POI loader was created to make it easy to move POI files to the units, but is there any reason that just copying the files is not another way to do it?

It's as good a way as any!

POILoader does more than just copying files (it translates the csv/gpx input into a new GPI format) ... but once it's created the .GPI file, copying it is fine.

One shortcoming of the Custom Folder mechanism, is that the /SILENT qualifier isn't honoured. (It never was actually silent - it just made POILoader run with the previous parameters.

However, it doesn't remember Custom Folder parameters (Garmin were told in about March, I think!)

'Rename method'

You may be intested in http://www.poi-factory.com/node/12029 where this method is mentioned. It's like using the 'rename' method with the pgi file being created and renamed at the same time.

(POI Loader2.5.2 'Mapsource' option will give you an option to rename before creating the *.pgi file; the 'Custom Folder' option creates a 'poi.pgi' file that will overwrite the previous poi.pgi file unless it's renamed, or moved, first.)

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16639 for more on the 'rename' method.
