Hi everyboby,
I would like to have your opinion on this :
I'm on the road, listening to the MP3 songs from SD Card of my Garmin Nuivi 660.
If i go thrue a zone where i have an alert listed, the music stop, i hear the correct MP3 personal alert from my POI, and then the music start to play BUT not where it has been stopped but at the beggining of the song(re-start the song).
Is that normal ???
Any ideas ???
Any Clues ???
MP3 alert messages VS MP3 Music
I have a 660 with mp3 files of songs and I haven't had that problem yet. Does it do it on eveery song or on just cetain one's?

I just realized it yesterday
I just realized it yesterday night, and living in Montreal I have multiples POI on my way from work to home, so it did it a couples of times over the same songs. I decided to turn off the MP3 music from my card.
I will try it again just to see if the problem is with a single song or with any of them.
Good suggestions, thanks

There are quite a few threads about this problem (in here somewhere)
Garmin were told about about it, didn't fix it ... and then introduced the bug to the 3xx series as well
The workaround, is to use .WAV files for your alerts, rather than .MP3s.

Any fast way you know to convert all of my MP3 alerts/messages ou sounds to WAV files ???
Is there a program I can download somewhere to do this process ??

Got It !!!
With the "Audacity" audio programm that I use to create my personnal MP3 alerts/messages I just realize that after opening any of my MP3 file I can easily transfer it to a WAV file and save it in my POI folder.
Back to work, Ive got a couples of them to convert !!!
Again, Thanks for the tip

Good solutions but it seem
Good solutions but it seem to take much more space.
Exemple :
52Ko for MP3
VS
280Ko for WAV
for only one of my personnel alert

SOX.EXE
AFTER you convert your mp3 alert files to wav alert files (yes, they are larger) and BEFORE you try to upload them to you GPSr with POI Loader, you need to get a file called SOX.EXE. POI Loader uses the program to load wav files and won't work without it. If you search the forum for SOX.EXE you will find the link to download it. There are different versions of the file, so be sure to get the right version for your PC and OS.

Sox.

Sox.exe needs to be in the same directory as POILoader.exe.
As for downloading it in the first place:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sox/sox12177.zip?modtime=11...
This is the version (12.17.7) that shipped with POI Loader V2.4.2

Just SOX
When you unzip the downloaded archive, the only file inside that you need is the SOX.EXE file. You can delete the others. The SOX.EXE file needs to be put in the same folder as the POI Loader program.
On my PC, it is C:\Program Files\Garmin
Yours should be the same, but could be different, so verify first.

OK, I think I got it right.
SOX.EXE is exactly in the same folder as my POI loader program.
On my PC as well, it is C:\Program Files\Garmin
Then I can erase the sox-14.0.1zip file and the sox.14.0.1 that I opened from this zip file and only keep SOX.EXE file ???
Am I right ???

Delete The Rest
That's what I did, delete the rest. Just keep the SOX.EXE file.

Yes, you can delete the .zip file. However - I'm not sure that that version of SOX.EXE is compatible with POILoader - see the link in my earlier post, to a version that definitely is.

SOX Version
The SOX.EXE version that I know works on my Windows XP Pro SP3 PC with POI Loader version 2.5.2 is:
1,672KB(1,712,128bytes) Created Tuesdsy, January 29, 2008, 8:59:34 PM
I found that information by navigating to the file using My Computer and then right-clicking on the SOX.EXE file and selecting at Properties.
Unfortunately, there is no version information displayed in the Properties window, so the next best thing is to compare file size & creation date/time.

Hi Bernard,
The skipping issue has been known by Garmin, for quite a while, and has yet to be addressed.
Just want to let you know when you convert your .mp3 files to .wav files, make sure they are encoded as "mono" and not "stereo" in order for them to play properly, on your unit.

SOX.EXE version from aug.15.2008
Well, everything is transfer from MP3 to WAV.
When I transfered from my computer to my GPS with POI Loader (SOX.EXE install) everything went smooth. Seem to be OK. No messages of error of any kind like the first time.
I'Ll give it a try on the road in a few minutes and see.
I just can't belived how fast we have support and answers to our problems on POI-Factory.
What a great site !!
THANKS TO YOU................

Mono
Did you catch tailspin's post that the wav files have to be mono?

Another thing !!!
Well, this must be the reason why it didn't work. My MP3 music from my SD card played but no sign of any alerts when I was around a place they shoud alert me.
I guess my WAV were not in "mono".
I'll go back in audacity programm and check it out and try to find a way to confirm or not if they are mono.
Thanks for the info Gary and Tailspin
