Try a different charger...
...such as off a/c or the computer. It might not have been plugged in to the cigarette lighter all the way, and been running off the battery the entire time. Or, try hitting the little reset button and see if that works.

Cigarette Lighter - Loosey Goosey
In a discussion on this site concerning the traffic receiver that is integrated into the auto power source for the NUVI it was revealed that the end of this power adapter comes loose very easily and very often. 'Tis possible that your duaghter's cig lighter plug end is loose and not providing power to the Nuvi.
Sorry to say you may have to
Sorry to say you may have to send it back to Garmin. I had the same exact problem with my 760 about a month after i bought it. In about a week They sent me a new refurbished model, which has worked fine for me since.
One good thing, i was able to regester the new model # and thus being able for a free map upgrade.
One bad thing, I think the screen was nicer on my original, this one the picture is not as sharp, like instead of bright white, kinda yellowish.
There is also posts around in here, about a bad, or burnt solder connection on the power slider. I did not want to risk opening my nuvi up, to mess with it.
Good Luck.
There was nothing I could do, I had to send it back for a new one.
I heard rumors that you can complain of a broken or defective window mount and get a free bean bag mount, worth a try.

Did I miss something about a window mount problem? Surely you aren't suggesting he lie about a problem just to get something for free. You know, you can stick candy bars in your pocket in the supermarket checkout line as well -- same thing.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

If the adapter wasn't plugged in all the way OR if a fuse in the tip of the adapter has blown, you might have totally discharged the battery. When that happens, it is sometimes necessary to use the USB connection to the battery to get enough of a charge that other chargers will work. Plugging in this way will immediately tell you if you should do anything other than call Garmin.
If the GPS comes alive when you plug it into the computer, try to see if the tip of the charger unscrews to reveal a fuse. The owner's manual may cover it.

Definitely check the connections and, if they are fine, check the fuse in the tip of the power plug. Fast and easy to do. Also, should the suggestions here resolve the issue, don't forget to drop back in and let folks know.
