Downloading POI files

I am a new gps user and am trying to download poi data bases. My gps is a garmin 680.

I have download the POI loader onto my regular computer. I have downloaded a couple of poi data bases onto my computer.
I plug in my nuvi and run the poi loader.
When I get to the screen that asks for the location of the data bases, the files are not recognized.
What am I missing?

Are you selecting the folder

Are you selecting the folder or the file?
What OS are you using?
Do the files end with .gpx or .csv?

poi downloads

Thanks. When I select the "browse" button to select the data base, I open the folder and the file that I had downloaded does not appear (It has a .csv suffix)

Are you on a mac or a pc?

Are you on a mac or a pc? Sometime files can be downloaded with the wrong extension, or a double extension. there is a thread around here somewhere...

Hi npowell1956,

Using the POI Loader, you don't select "individual" poi files.

When, using the POI Loader, you navigate to the "folder" containing your poi files (.csv, .gpx, .bmp, or .mp3), that's all you have to do. The POI Loader will load "all the files" within that folder.

In other words, the POI Loader doesn't load specific poi files. You select the "folder" in which your poi files reside, then the POI Loader loads "all the files" inside that folder.

If you want to load one "specific" poi, then move all of your other poi files out of that folder and run the POI Loader. Just remember that all the other poi files that "were on your unit", won't be there after you load that "one" specific poi file. Everytime you run the POI Loader, it overwrites whatever is already on your unit and replaces it with the files, inside the poi folder, on your hard drive.
