MapSource and Advoidances

I have noticed in several posts here that fellow POI-Factory members wishing they could make areas/roads AVOIDABLE when making routes.

With the new Nuvi 8xx series that is valid option under Navigation "Custom Advoids".

For those who own a Nuvi that can import routes from MapSource (7xx, 8xx, Zumo and any others)also have this option available to them using MapSource.

The option is found at:
EDIT >> PrEference >> Routing >> ADvance >> MANAGE ROUTE ADVOIDANCE

This is with the present Ver 6.13.6

Hope this will help you in your route making process.

.

I don't know about the other units, but the custom avoidances set in MapSource will not transfer to the Zumo series.

If you create a route with mapsource using custom avoidances..

It won't download that route? That sounds strange... confused Or am I missing something?

The route will get loaded to the unit, and the Zumo will faithfully follow that route.

However, the Custom Avoidances will not be transfered. And those avoidances will not show up on the Zumo.

So, if you were to plan a route on the Zumo, it would not avoid the areas that you set to avoid in MapSource.

That is correct. The route

That is correct. The route created in MapSource using avoided areas (I do this for construction zones) will transfer to my 760 just fine and the route will display and execute as it was created in MapSource. The pitfall with this comes if you deviate from the route to the extent that the GPSr will recalulate the route. At this point, the GPSr does not know the avoidances and will recalulate with out consideration for avoidences set up in MapSource. At this point once I am confident that I am back on the original route, I can reselect my original route and continue on from my present location.

Custom Avoid on 880 fine, waiting for MS on computer

I am saving AND printing out your comments about this. Drilling down into the Custom Avoid on the 880 is cool, but have to be careful touching the screen when it is on, or you set an unintended avoid. What I'm waiting for is the map CD from Garmin to arrive, so I can avoid roads and areas as I set up long routes using the computer, then uploading the whole shebang to the 880.

Little pieces of the puzzle keep dropping into place and yes, I am beginning to see my way. I am one of those who "avoids" places on my trips, and you picked up on that subject before I knew enough to verbalize it as a problem. You guys are so patient and observant. Great community here.
