Motorola Chargers and Nuvi 350's

I notice that I can charge my Nuvi from my 120V charger and the car charger that came with my Motorola Razr. I need a power supply that I can use to run my Garmin on the motorcycle and being the opportunist that I am, there are a lot more Razr chargers around than there are Garmins. Any reason I can't cut one of these up to wire into my bike to power my Nuvi?

TIA,
Air

Speaking of which, it's not raining so it's time for a ride.

Be careful

Check to see the amperages are the same, or very close. You wouldn't want to pooch your unit because of it for the sake of a few bucks.

Hmmm, I Figured I was Safe Since

I can connect both the phone and the Nuvi to my computers via the same mini-USB cable. I figured that since I am universally swapping them on the USB that they are using the same voltages. Could it be that there are differences that aren't apparent?

My Novi only charges and won't run with the Razr charger

You might have the same problem to contend with. You can charge it but not use it while it is charging.

You can over come that by

Turning the nuvi on, going into test mode, (hold you finger on the power icon for 8 secs or so) and then plugging in the charger, exit test mode and your set...

Yeah, my Zumo goes into USB Mass Storage Mode when I connect my Motorola A/C adapter. I charges fine, though. But the pins are different than the Garmin charger. At least for my Zumo.

Well, I'll go try it out right now . . ..

Will advise what I find out.

OK, it charges but won't operate

I tried to start it, hold down the power icon (assuming this is the battery icon in the top right) but nothing happened.

So I'm glad I asked as I would have been more than a little upset if I spent the time to hook up a Razr charger only to find out that it didn't work. I'll spend the $$'s on a Garmin adapter.

Gotta' love forums.

did you turn it on and go into test mode

Before attaching the charger?

Tried to but nothing happens

A search of the manual shows no test mode function?

Well, I found it!

I did a search on Google and found the test mode secret here:

It's the time display; not the battery display. I did as instructed, tunred the unit on, went into test mode and then plugged in the car charger. It immediately kicked me into USB mass storage mode so I'm guessing that the car charger won't sustain the necessary current and/or voltage. It was fun to try though. Especially the tone generator; scared the **** out of my wife smile.
