Magellan 3225 POI and Memory Card Issues

Please forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere but I've looked through the FAQ already and it's only caused me to have more questions.

I recently purchased a Magellan model 3225. It's working wonderful for what I want it for but I'm wondering about the POI files. I've noticed that the ones that ship with the GPS have some inaccuracies for things in my area. I was thinking that by using the POI Editor that came on the CD I could modify them slightly to correct known issues in my area.

The POI editor will not let me open the *.poi files on the instrument. I see in the FAQ that it talks about *.mgln files and not *.poi files but I don't have any *.mgln files that I can find.

Also, I have a small hema brand SD memory card that I want to use with the GPS but no matter how I put it in the GPS will not recognize it. Somewhere in my FAQ search I saw where it said that some SD cards need to be unlocked? How would I do that?

Thanks folks.

POI's on 3225

You can't edit the factory poi's at all, only the custom ones you add via the POI editor. Secondly, have you tried to format the Hemma card to fat or fat 32? You may need to before use.

Magellan does only recognise certain cards as being secure for DL'ing maps onto, be aware of that. Secure Digital is one of them.

You cannot edit the built-in POI files. The editor is for creating your own custom POI files and saving them in .mgln format......or using a .csv file like is found here and saving it in a .mgln file.

How do you know the unit is not recognizing the card ? Many other folks who have screwed around with old cards have ended up just buying a new one.
It is easier and they are relatively inexpensive.
