I have a Centrex station around the corner from me and it's $132.4 litre. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday's it drops 2 cents a litre. Diesel is $1.479 a litre.

And all you fine folks in the US thought you paid a lot... LOL!

Gas Prices

Just do a search in your area.

http://www.californiagasprices.com/ is the easiest to look through. I think you just have to replace california for your state but there is also http://www.gasbuddy.com/ if it does not work for you.

E85

I passed a station the other day selling E85 (85% Ethanol) at $3.69/gal. Regular gas is $4.11 to $4.29 per gallon in my neck of the woods. My car doesent have a flex engine, anyone know what the maximum ethanol percentage is for non-flex engines?
Example:
If I have half a tank of regular gas, and fill it with E85, I'd be running 42.5% Ethanol, but no idea what that would do to my car.

Rough prices

No exact high or low prices, but I paid 4.219 yesterday.

It has been there for a few weeks.

$105.00 to fill up for the week!

In Fremont

California = $5.079 per gallon. In Oakley, California $4.279, 40 miles north of Fremont.

In Ormond Beach, FL

Paid 4.039 at a Hess Station yesterday. Highest to date for me down here in FL.
An interesting observation I had during a driving trip to AZ last December. I drive the speed limit ALL the time and of course there isn't much variation in topography on I-10 thru NM>TX>LA, BUT everytime I filled up with gas, (where the sign said 10% or less Ethanol) my mpg decreased approximitly from 29-31 mpg to 26-28 mpg. It was consistent. This was driving a Taurus V6. Just a FYI item.

When you die, if you get a choice between going to regular heaven or pie heaven, choose pie heaven. It might be a trick, but if it's not, mmmmmmm, boy.

I saw a gas station that had $3.58 posted

But of course - that station was boarded up and closed for six months. surprised

I've not noticed any around the Chicago NW Suburbs less than 4 and a quarter. With gas going down on the market this week almost ten dollars, why did the prices at the pumps go up a couple cents? crying That's a rhetorical question...

--
And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

What to expect

AAA reported the nationwide (in the US) average price of a gallon of regular gas at $4.105 last night.

Oil has slid a little in price lately but it won't last. The situation with Iran isn't going to help matters either.

$3.98 for regular unleaded

$3.98 for regular unleaded in Georgetown, KY last night. Saw E85 for $3.15 in Indiana off Rt 74 (just east of Indianapolis).

E85

Do not do that. Ethanol will tear up your rubber hoses in the car. It will also stall. Lets talk about E85. Yes it is cheaper but it takes more of it to burn in your vehicle. This ethanol is the biggest joke in our country today. Now instead of having one refinery making gas you have two now. One for ethanol.

The other answer to your question. If E85 is in your area you are probably running E10 and that is the max you car can take. FYI, your gas mileage has decreased by using the E10.

No worries, I haven't put any in my tank. More of an academic question.

3.99

In my area (Phila.) the price has recently dipped below $4. What is quite amusing is I remember the first time I paid "over $2," and boy was I fuming. It was 2.139 in Yonkers, NY, circa late 2k1 if memory serves me. I decided to only get 5 gal. since gas was so outrageously expensive. LOL

owner's manual states octane requirements

LOL the owner's manual is the key. If you don't need it, don't pay for it is the way I look for it. On my Nissan, the fuel door says that premium is recommended but regular may be used. I've used 87 for over 160k miles with no harm nor foul to the knock sensors, motor, etc. My other car also says premium recommended, but 89 is REQUIRED. So I just use 93 super....

Mine did not like less than 93

My Regal required 93 octane. I tried 87 and 90 a couple times and didn't notice any knocking or performance issues. But the "check engine" would sometimes come on, so I stuck to 93.

National Gas Prices for Canada and the US

You can look at
www.gasbuddy.com
You can branch our by location from there. Updated by users. Very good resource

Required Octane

I don't know what year your car is but if it is fairly new it can run on 87 octane. The computer adjusts the timing based on the knock sensor to prevent damage. You will loose a few horsepower (~5%) if you use lower octane. The manufacturer is required to specify the higher octane so you get the horsepower they advertise. The reality is that you can't tell the difference in power unless you are on a race track.

Like everywhere else

Like everywhere else, prices have dropped in the best 2-3 days.
At the Hess station I use in Ormond Beach, FL it dropped .11/gal to $3.939/gal and a typically pricey CITGO (which I won't buy) it dropped .12/gal.

Like the user above, if I use "less than 10% ethanol" mixture gas , I notice up to 2-3 mpg decrease gas mileage. I typically get 22-24 mpg around town in my V6 Taurus.

E85 - Non Flexfuel engines.

From what I understand the maximum percentage in a non-flexfuel engine is 10%. My owners manual says that as well. I have a '04 F-150. FOr your specific vehicle it will be somewhere in your owners manual. BTW... Wish I had a E85 station in my area, Wilson, NC.

Gas Prices (211 without a gun)

In my general play area south of LAX (Los Angeles) gas prices range from $4.20 to $4.33. Depending on what intersection you’re at.

Stations close to LAX will get the highest prices. You know returning the rental car. crying Filling up the car’s gas tank before turning it in.

I rewirte engine management systems for a side line. MOST ECU's will trip a check engine light at or about 25-30% E85, if it is a gas only vehicle. Some states are mandating 20% E85 and many more are mandated at 10%, so keeping the mixtures low will work fine. E85 likes a richer mixture (9.003:1 vs. 14.64:1. but this varies with the mix percentage), so there will be a slight ding in economy due to the reduced energy content.
E85 is MUCH higher octane, and like higher mechanical compression and more timing. I've converted both of my vehicles to E85, it costs 25% less (locally) and I get 20% fewer MPG, so I'm still at a net gain.

I've looked at these type sites before and find them somewhat fun to look at. One is updated by members and is inaccurate for the most part although a time stamp is included with the posted price and does provides a hint to the accuracy.

Others, like the link above don't appear to include discount places like Costco or Sam's.

It's pretty bad

We're programmed into believing anything under 2.00 a gallon is cheap. I guess I need to change my way of thinking. Maybe anything under 3 should be cheap?

Actually under $2 isn't that bad. But I do recall a few weeks ago that when it fell to just below $3 people were besides themselves running out to top off their tanks every few days in fear that prices would reverse.

I agree. and we thought it will be upward of 5 dollars. But I am happy to see gas at 2 dollars. As we had thought gas prices will never go down and I was even happy to see it going down under 3 dollars. Infact 2 weeks ago when I got gas at 2.19 I was too happy.
