Charging Garmin 250W via PC

Can someone tell me if Garmin 250W GPS can be charged by connecting it to the PC via a USB cable? I notice that when you connect the GPS to the PC it automatically turns on, but not sure if unit gets charged. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the Nuvi 350 I have does, so I would strongly suspect that yours would as well. I haven't seen the interface for that one, but on the Nuvi 350 on the main screen it shows a lightning bolt thing over the battery icon if it is charging. Does that one do something similar?

Charging Garmin via PC

As far as I know, all garmin gpsrs can be charged by the PC. I do mine all the time, as I don't plug into the car, when using it. My unit charges even with gpsr is off. It states that it is charging.

Charging Garmin 250W via PC

Thanks guys, but I am not too sure about mine. The Garmin resource page or built-in help menu in the GPS does not make a mention of this at all. All I have read is about charging via car adapter or AC adapter. The only reason I need to connect to PC is to upload POIs or upgrade the maps. My unit stays on when connected to the PC, there is no any indication on the screen that it is charging and I cannot turn it off using the on/off switch on the unit. So I am still wondering or I will call Garmin and find out.

Turn on the unit, touch the battery/power icon in the top right corner. Hold it for about 5 secs and the unit will go inta a test mode. Then connect the usb cable. You will see your batteries conditon and that it is charging. BTW you can exit this screen and it will still charge, and you can turn the unit off and on and play to your hearts content until you disconnect the cable...

In short, yes it will

In short, yes it will charge.

Secondly, if you are in mass storage mode, all you have to do (at least in 2000 and XP) is eject the device and you will see the battery charging.

Hi Aophiuchus, thanks a lot. I did exactly what you told me to do and, yes, it shows that the unit is charging. I am relieved as I was contemplating to buy an AC adapter. Thanks guys for quick responses.

Yes, I am sure you can charge your GPS by connecting to PC via a USB. I did that all the time with my 650

I can confirm that the NUVI 200 charges via a USB connection to a PC.

I charge mine everyday while at work.
