NavTeq Error Submission

I wonder how Navteq verifies submissions sent in by users. I sent in a correction in December and they responded to my submission a couple days ago stating nothing will be done and it has been determined their database is correct. Hmmmm, considering the road that isn't listed in Mapsource and shows up on my Nuvi as not being there is indeed there and has been for two years.
Anyone know how Navteq presumably verifies our submissions? In my case, it is obvious a live person did not come out to verify. I'd hate to think these corrections we send in are a waste of time!

Google

Have you checked whether it shows up on Google Maps? If it does, that means they've already added it to their maps and would presumably show up in the next update.

Google Maps

I'll check it again, I didn't see it there a couple of months ago. Is Google Maps NavTeqs source of info?

This is email I got back on Google maps.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I'm happy to help you with this. I would use the google map as we get our mapping from the same company. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Interesting

If this is the case. It seems it is useless to submit an error report to Navteq unless Google Maps has the current data in their system. Hmmmm

?

I don't think it is - Google Maps draws its data from a variety of sources. (Using the API, as opposed to the website, I think you can choose which is displayed).

Certainly, if you use Google Maps to display European roads, it will say "Tele Atlas" in the bottom-right hand corner, not Navteq.

But . . .

Phil,
Here in the US, if you are at a zoom level lower than 1000 miles, all reference to Tele Atlas is removed from the Google Maps screen. Every reference I've seen to a map problem here has been viewable on Google Maps, unless it was in the process of being changed.

Drew, you must have misunderstood. Google Maps updates their maps far more frequently (from all accounts I've heard) than Garmin can afford to do. Thus, you might be able to discern whether it has already been addressed and just hasn't made its way through Garmin's process yet. Unless somebody advises Navteq of a mistake, it may well not get fixed.

I've just submitted an error. I'll see what happens. It's more of a navigation error. Tom-Tom and Garmin tell me to go down a street that has a permanent barrier. It's part street/part private road and is not a through road. It's been that way for 60 years. The barrier is just a guardrail. The map is fine, the navigation is wrong. Hmmm...

They seem to default to using Navteq for North America and Tele Atlas for Europe ... but I have seen (rare) occasions when the opposite is true (possibly on sites with embedded Google Maps). Given that I know they (GE) have Navteq maps for Europe, I wish I could figure out how to force it to use them.
