760 and Bluetooth

I just got my nuvi 760 from Costco the other day.
I can't seem to get the bluetooth to work, with all the features, for me.

The caller ID displays "unknown: and then the number, even though my phone displays the callers name.

I also can't get the text messages to display on the nuvi.

The phone/pocket PC I'm using is an Audiovox VX6700 from Verizon.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it is?

What kind of phone is it?

My Blackberry works fine, give a little more info..

bluetooth on nuvi 760

i have a Samsung which was not listed as the one that garmin can sync - i tried it and it works great.
go to your manual (also a pdf on line) and follow the instructions. I gave my cell phone my name "mike" and then synced it with the garmin using the suggested code 1234
Voila - it worked.
of course every time i have my garmin on and switch my cell phone on it asks me to veryfy the connection on my phone ( it takes 2 presses on my phone to confirm ) and i am logged in. i can recive & make phone calls directly from my garmin. Also my phone book gets downloaded into the garmin when i connect my phone, allowing to make Voice dialing or typing in the phone number.

Ours also works

We also use a samsung m510 that wasn't listed. Works great and can even view the phone book. The first time I tried it, I couldn't get it to work. My wife spends 2 minutes with it and it was up and running. Turns out I was doing something stupid.

I don't know about Samsung..

But my blackberry and my wife’s Razr both have an option to "trust" the 760 or other Bluetooth device so you don't have to ok the connection each time.. You might want to check it out on the Sumsung

760 and Bluetooth

OK, let me clarify my problem.
I can get the nuvi to pair with my phone, and use it as a hands free device.

What seems to not be working is the caller ID.
It displays the number on the nuvi, but the the name of the person, that is calling me, doesn't. It just says unknown.

Also when I receive a text message, on my phone, the nuvi shows nothing, no text message.
Also the phone book button never appears.

Try pairing it again. I have

Try pairing it again. I have an LG and I had to try like 4 times to get it to pair correctly. Not sure why this is. Also, some features do not work with certain models of phones.

Pairing Verizon 6700

I've paired several times and the same results.
After playing with it for awhile I finally beamed my contacts one at a time to get the phone book option to work.
What a pain.
However when I dial my voice mail, then select call options, Touch tones, while listening to messages so I can skip/save/delete, the touch tones remain on for about 11 seconds, when I press the appropriate key. Very annoying.
Still text messaging not working.
So I don't know if I have a problem with my new 760 or it's a phone compatibility problem.
I'll contact Garmin and see what they say.

Compatibility List

Phil,
I don't see where Garmin says your phone is compatible; is it listed somewhere I'm not seeing. You seem quite surprised that the phone isn't supplying all the info to the GPS, but you may be lucky it works at all.

760 bluetooth

I still can't get either my nuvi360 or 760 to stay connected with my BB Pearl, they keep dropping the connection, I gave up on them...

760 and bluetooth

Well I solved the touch tone problem while checking voice mail. I had my phone set for long tones. When I changed the keypad to short tones, it worked properly.
I did find another problem however.
When in phone mode and selecting POI/ Extras, which are POI files I downloaded from this site, some files show as no matches found.
I don't know if this is related to the type of file or the fact that there may not be a phone # as part of the POI.
Maybe someone else knows the answer to this.
I'll keep messing around with it and if I find something I'll create another post.

760 and bluetooth

Well I looks like it's a GPX file vs a CSV file.

All the GPX files allow you to dial the phone #.
Even though some of the CSV files have a phone # listed it doesn't seem compatible with the dialing feature.

Yes

Yes. Your are correct. Only GPX files contain dialable numbers.

My phone doesn't work with all features

I have a Samsung phone that also isn't listed as compatible - the SCH-A930. Be glad that your phone can do the phone book part. Mine can't.

Some phones don't support the "push" feature needed to send the phone book to the 760 - mine doesn't. The nüvi synchs up fine (although I have had to, a couple of times, go to the bluetooth settings and tell it to sync with the phone that's already listed there) but I don't have use of text messages showing up on the nüvi or my phone book showing up there.

I'll just have to wait until the end of August when my contract allows a new phone discount and get one that works fully with the unit.

Text messaging does not work

Text messaging does not work with my LG either.

Can Bluetooth be Disabled Permanently

Even though I disable the bluetooth feature, it is enabled again the next time when I turn on the unit. Is there a way to permanently turn off bluetooth?

Have you

speedy, don't know what BT firmware version you have on your devices but have you upgraded to the latest versions for your 360 and 760. On my 660 on version 3.00 my BB Pearl would have that disconnect problem all the time. When I upgraded to v. 3.10 that solved the disconnect problem. Please check this link:

Are you disabling by going to Wrench/Bluetooth/Enabled, checkmarking the "Disabled" circle, and then hitting OK? If so, it should not change back.

I did exactly as described but in my rush to get to the office, I must've forgotten to hit OK. It is working properly now. Thanks!

I was having a lot of trouble pairing my BB 8703e with my 660 and afterward getting other bizarre issues.
I did the firmware upgrade and was happy to see a Bluetooth update included. With my fingers crossed I found everything working great after.

Cheers

Work is talking about supplying me with a BB - I think it will be the same 8703e that you have. Can you tell me if your phone book loads properly to the nüvi?

I've been quite disappointed that my Samsung SCH-A930 can't send the phone book to my nüvi.

760 And Bluetooth

I have an iPhone and everything works except voice activation and text messaging. I don't have to enter anything to get it to match up when I get in the car. As the directions stated depending on the cell phone some features may not work, try another Blue Tooth phone and see if the caller ID works..

Address Book/Contacts

Hi thrak,
Yes, the address book loaded fine into the phone book on my Nüvi 660. In fact, I have over 100 contacts in my BB address book, and they loaded almost instantly.
Good luck,
Rob

PS... I should post this update as it seems my connectivity has become sporadic again. I'm not sure if it's being caused by a new password policy being mandated/pushed by our MS Exchange BES to my BB or not. The BB gets locked every 5 minutes now and that may be causing the connection drop.

re: Bluetooth connection drops

Strike that. The locking itself doesn't seem to be causing the connection drops but I'm still looking at the policy push that delivers the password enforcement as the possible issue. It comes every 15 minutes I think.

Updates

Make sure you have upgraded your unit with the current firmware for your Nuvi. I had tons of Bluetooth problems up until about a month and a half ago when one of the updates resolved my issues.

Sound Quality

How's the sound quality on the 760? I tried a speakerphone call on my 660 and was told I sounded horrible! I ended-up unpairing my phone because it was unusable.

I've read posts saying the sound is horrible and others saying it's fine. I've read posts saying the external microphone solved the issue and others saying it didn't help at all.

I bought the external mic and I've spoken on the phone over the nüvi a number of times. Several times I've asked the other person how the sound was and they said it just sounded like I was on a cell phone - in other words not as good as a "standard" phone but no worse than many cell phones sound.

I received two calls for support while driving from one office to another and was able to handle both calls without any problems and both callers said the sound was fine.

Soooooooooo.......... it appears that, as they say in commercials, your mileage may vary.

Not every feature works with

Not every feature works with every phone. I happen to have the LG9900 and it is not even listed as an approved phone by Garmin, however, my bluetooth works great, the address book loads instantly and I even have voice recognition, but the text messaging feature does not work.

Experience with Bluetooth and Nuvi 760

The Bluetooth sound quality I get when I pair my Nuvi 760 with my Verizon LG VX8300 cell phone depends on where I am. In my living room at home my callers can't tell I'm using the Nuvi or Bluetooth and It works great - but who needs the Nuvi at home? With the same phone in my Jeep Grand Cherokee, where I need the Bluetooth I get nothing but complaints about sounding like I am talking from a tunnel. Further, in my Jeep when I connect to the car stero using the AUX in port I get a really bad echo of my own voice about 1/2 second after I speak - I found it really hard to ignore my own voice during the test. So, So far ... I am not able to use the Bluetooth effectively in the car. I really want to because I really like the features you get But, Unfortunately, talking is the main show. I had to disable the Nuvi bluetooth. I suppose I could try the external microphone but that sort of takes away half the bluetooth fanfare. If I have to plug a microphone in I'd just as soon plug it into my cell phone - which works great in the car (plantronics mic). I wanted bluetooth to work to get rid of the wires!! Using external microphones to make the bluetooth work as intended is a contradiction an a half. In addition, dangling microphone wires is an advertisement to Thieves that a Nuvi might be present somewhere in the car...something I go to great pains about to avoid advertising.

760 and Chocolate

I had to use "send name card" and "select all contacts" to send the phone book from my Chocolate (which is not the model listed on the website as being compatible) to my Garmin. Now it pairs up every time but I get the message "Bluetooth PBAP requested by Nuvi. Accept?" every time I power the Garmin up. I don't think text messaging works at all.

echo in nuvi 760

I had very bad echo problem. I found that when the voluem is set at defualt settings it did not give that echo problem.
