How do I get back to the POI factory download manager. I screwed up and tried to use my Star Downloader
when it auto started. Didn't work for POI files. Now I can't get any files downloaded. Thanks for any suggestions.
Download manager?

Most, if not all, of the POI files here are pretty tiny. Are you a Windows, Mac, Linux user? If Windows, why not just let Windows handle it? Click the POI you want and choose "Save" and save to a directory dedicated to POI files.
If Star Downloader is the issue, I might suggest uninstalling and reinstalling it--but not to use any download manager for these small POI (or icons or sound) files from POI Factory.
Poi Factory download
Poi Factory download manager? I didn't realized we had one.
Try turning off the Star Downloader before you download pois off this site.
I don't think a download manager would work on this site since all the pois are not direct links.

Download Problem
Thanks to all. I removed Star Downloader with Windows Add/Remove Programs. Star speeds DL using 4 mirror sites.
Now, I have another issue. When I click Download on site and select my 'POI File' to receive, the .csv file ends up as an 'Active' file? I think I want to Drag and Drop a .csv files from Windows Explorer to an SD card in my reader/writer, but this file doesn't seem right? Help, please.
You need to use the Garmin
You need to use the Garmin POI Loader to put them on your device. It's a Garmin program and can be found here:

I don't believe that the Garmin device will recognize the file otherwise. You should look at the FAQ on this site. It is very explanatory. It helped me quite a bit. I hope that helped.
Right-Click
When I click Download on site and select my 'POI File' to receive, the .csv file ends up as an 'Active' file?
To download a csv file, you have to right-click on the link. This opens a context dialog box. Then left-click once on Save Target As.. and select the folder where you want to save the file. If you right-click on the csv file, it will open the file instead, probably with Excel, if that is the default program selected on your PC.
Then, as bloodbath stated, you have to use POI Loader to install the file on your GPS.

Download Problem
OK,left click on the file to be downloaded is not mentioned in the FAQ, but I understand, and my choice is 'Save Link As,' then I'm given a choice of what Folder to store it in. When I do that with the Walmart, or Rest Areas DL's they are both .htm files, not .csv. If all the DL's are .htm's, how do you keep them straight, or avoid dupes? Rename? I do have the POI DL'r program. Does this convert the .htm files to .csv on my SD? Seems confusing, or unclear. Thanks, again.
I'm confused

For example, when I go to the Rest Area POI page
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643
and scroll down to the "Download" section, then click (left-click) on the RestAreasCombined.csv (136.06 KB), my Windows XP PC gives me the choice of Open/Save/Cancel but as a csv file, not a htm file. If this is what you get, choose "Save," then save it to a subdirectory you've created on your PC to hold your POIs, icons and sounds. Once you've done this (and I gather you haven't gotten this far yet), the next step is to use Garmin's POI Loader to install the file to your GPS.
PS

PS--In thinking further, I find that being given a choice of "Save Link As" is something offered by the Firefox web browser. Is that what you're using? Does your computer have Internet Explorer? If so, try left-clicking the csv file download link from IE which should let you save the file as the intended csv file.
Given a choice of saving as htm makes me think you're trying to save the web page itself, not the intended file to be downloaded.
Download Problem
Thanks, CraigW. I was using Firefox which was DL weird files named 'Active?' I switched to IE, created a new folder Garmin\POI Files and downloaded poi selections into it. They came down as .csx files, yea! Using POI Loader, I transferred onto SD in my reader/writer. Cool. Now, I will try to learn how to DL/install sounds and icons. Hopefully, just as easy. Thanks, again.
