Expanding / Increasing search range - Nuvi 750

rolleyes
I have the new Nuvi 750...the other day, on my driveway here in Dallas, I was looking for R.E.I., which I actually know is about 16 to 20 miles away. However, when I went to do a search, it found multiple references, all of which contained REI in the name. All of the references or points it found, where all under 2 miles from my current location.

I could not figure out a way to, say...search within 20 mile range as an example.

So, I tried looking up another store....same thing...seems to look primarily within a 2 mile range.

Is there a setting somewhere I am missing? Checked on Garmin's support site...could not find anything particular to this.

Suggestions, tips, ideas?

Stu

use the near feature

before you type in the search use the near feature and it will help

The goal is to get you to the nearest destination, so the limitation is probably in the search algorithm.

If the REI store you are looking for is in another city or has a different zipcode than the one in your driveway, try selecting the "different city" option instead of "near" for your search.

Well, Dallas is a pretty big city and if I'm in Dallas and IT's in Dallas...what then.

Both address and zip were unknown...of course I knew the general location, so finding it physically was not an issue...just finding it in GPS.

I understand searching NEAR...but Dallas is Dallas.

Put the unit in simulation mode. Touch the map to put it in browse mode. Drag the screen to where you can see the general area of the store. Tap the screen and it will place an arrow where you tap. Hit the button marked Set Loc(ation). Then do your search and it will show you the 50 POIs closest to the newly set location.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Better Yet

Or you could download the REI poi file found here
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1697
if the store was built in the last year it might not be here but still best bet.

All good information. Took

All good information. Took me a while to learn the near function.
