Just loaded the POI loader and am trying to figure out where to go from here.
L.A. Times had a POI file for red light cameras, but the garmin loader didn't recognize its format.
What is the usual format for these files?
The one that got downloaded from the L.A. Times site had the peculiar title:
LA County Redlight Cameras.csv.txt
are these usually .csv files or .txt files or some weird hybrid of both.
Hoped to figure that out here... but couldn't download a test file without becomng an active member
csv
rename the file taking out the ".txt" and see if it works.

The format
The format of POI files is specific to the brand of the GPSr. The Garmin format is explained in the following:
http://www.poi-factory.com/garmin-csv-file-format
If the file doesn't work after removing the extra txt extension, it wouldn't surprise me if your file has the order of the coordinates reversed. As for being unable to download POI files from this site, the only files that are restricted are the redlight-camera and speed-camera POI files. Any of the other files would offer you the opportunity to view a properly formatted csv file.
As for the double extension on the file from the LA Times, do you by any chance use a Mac. We have had instances here where files that have only the csv extension when downloaded by a PC, have a second txt extension when downloaded by a Mac. Basically, a csv file is merely a txt file but it uses the csv extension to advise applications that commas contained by the file should be used as delimitters for 3 or 4 separate fields.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
