POI Phone Dialing Fails

have a Nuvi 660. I have it paired with my cell phone.

When I list a POI and choose to have the GPS dial it, that part works. However, the phone company always comes back that the number can not be dialed as entered.

The POI's have the phone number listed as:

+1-xxx-xxx-xxxx

The "1" is not the issue, I am wondering if the GPS is dialing the +.

The other possibility is that it is dialing too fast.

I didn't find any options to adjust these issues in the setup of the GPS, unless I missed something.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

.

FWIW - My Nüvi 310 can dial (via a Nokia 6300), a number that starts +44161....etc

ie it's happy with a "+" and a country code. There's no hyphens in any of my numbers though - maybe that's the problem?

Favorites Work

I have narrowed it down to the plus sign.

I can dial numbers in my favourites in the form of 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx

I have found no option in the Nuvi to disable the plus sign.

.

Is your firmware updated? I know on the Zumo, this was an issue with an older firmware version, but it was corrected. Perhaps it's the same with your 660.

POI dialing

I've a 660 also and don’t have that problem. None of my POI’s show a + anywhere in their phone numbers. I’d also suggest you update the software on your 660. Use the Garmin WebUpdater and you should be fine.

Isn't it more a case, that it doesn't know what to substitute for the "+"? Presumably it is the phone that's struggling here, rather than the Nüvi?

Assuming the Nüvi just passes through what it's been given, can you dial from your phone, using the "+". Could it be a service restriction - as in no 'international' calls allowed?

Why

Nope, I can make international calls if I like. Besides, I do not have to use a plus sign to call any long distance number in Canada or the US. I certainly don't need to use it to call the local drug store.

Most current

I have the most current firmware, bluetooth firmware and maps (2009)

What version maps do you have?

I can call my favorites if I entered a phone number, or manually dial a phone number. Just the POI phone numbers are not working.

Most current firmware and bluetooth software and maps.

I called Garmin and reported the bug.

Unwanted + sign

Try looking up a poi phone number when your 660 is NOT paired to your cell phone. Most cell phones cause a 1 to be added to the phone number when paired, maybe there is something going on here in the pairing process.
