Remove windshield mark.......gently?

With all the stories of GPS theft, I'd like to move my unit off the windshield.
Does anyone have a method to gently remove the residual ring from the windshield. I'd like to remove it, but I don't want to cause any damage to the windshield in the process.

Hmm

How about a razor blade, alcohol (99%) and Windex? For stubborn stains, turp works well, too.

Armorall glass wipes

Those Armorall glass wipes work a treat too - and as they are in a covenient dispenser, they are easy to keep around too.

Get a Arkon Air Vent mount

I have this Arkon's Air Vent Mount for my Nuvi and it works great.

Just attach it to the air vents in your car and its easily removable too.

Vertical

Sure! I have one vehicle with horizontal vents and one with vertical. sad

I got the arkon but

with summer and lots of driving coming, its now up for the friction mount on the dash so the A/C won't hit the GPSr.

Garmin Friction Mount

I use the Garmin Beanbag Mount. The windshield mount is currently illegal in California but, possible legislation may change that.

I second that! Someone told me long ago about using black and white newspaper to remove road salt from the windshield. It works great! I always keep one in the car for stubborn windshield spots.

Remove Windshield Mark....Gently

I have found that nail polish remover will remove the ring. You just have to be careful not to get it on the dash.

Cinch !

I use a window cleaning product called "Cinch" (no alcohol, no ammonia) with a microfiber cloth. Works great with NO streaks.

Cali leads the way in crazy laws

Wow Glass mounted GPSr's are Illegal in California? Your kidding right! Please don't tell me that's true.

Don't the law makers have better things to do with there time? I mean there are people using weed eaters out there.

Cali isn't the only place

I believe that glass mounted GPS's are illegal in Minnesota too. Here is the notice from Geeks.com from one of their GPS ads:

"NOTICE TO DRIVERS IN CALIFORNIA AND MINNESOTA

State law prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles."

I agree with you dog_poop.

But 99.9% of the drivers here (So Calif.) have them mounted on their windshields. Seems almost everyone here has a GPS now. Mines mounted on my dash.

So where does one mount their toll road transponder?

Have mounted mine on the

Have mounted mine on the windshield(North Cal.)...have been using it for a while now...never had any trouble....

Calif. Law Excludes Toll Tags

California FasTrak Toll Tags can be mounted to the windshield. They also have a style that attaches to the front license plate.

This link quotes the sections out of the vehicle codes:

CA Law

I also read last week that they are trying to adjust the law to allow for GPS's on the windshield.

Stoner's Invisible Glass

Stoner's Invisible Glass, available in aerosol or hand-spray, is a favorite of the car detailing crowd. Does a great job cleaning glass.

The new CVC sections on handheld phone use (CVC 23123, 23124) which come into effect July 1 are going to be interesting to watch. There's opinion that some agencies/locales may see this as a revenue opportunity.

Others just consider it a common sense and safety issue, along with 26708 (don't block your windows, applied to windshield-mounted GPS units), and 27400 (don't wear headphones/earphones on both ears while driving).

...And has aptly been pointed out on other threads, the chance of you getting cited for one of these depends greatly on your attitude, and the attitude of the officer who spots you!

I agree with Normsuss when he asks how you could damage your windshield but in the spirit of sharing I offer these tips:
- never use a rock, hammer or drill to clean your windshield & you should be okay.

It's funny how a post from May of last year is still attracting comments. Hope he's got his windshield cleaned off by now.

I would also recommend against using a file or sandpaper.

J, yes the original poster probably has cleaned their windshield by now, but the beauty of this site is that others can continue to learn from their question. I've gleaned valid information from posts that were over a year old, it's a continuing conversation.

If we can stop just one other person from damaging their windshield, it will have been worth the effort.
