screen saver

I was wondering if anyone has or knows how to put a screen saver on the Garmin. When it is plugged into USB it just sits there on the same screen while it is charging/connected and it seems like that is hard on the sreen and could cause an eventual burn in. Any way to change that?

not possible

This is simply not possible due to the closed nature of it's operating system.

that's kind of what I

that's kind of what I thought. Seems like they would address that issue. I hate leaving a screen on the same page for so long, almost makes me want to throw a towel over it or something so I don't have to watch.

Not a worry on a LCD no phosphors to burn unevenly

It is a LCD so you do not have to worry about it. If it ever would get a slight memory from a long time on one screen it would go away after using it normally for a little while.

Burn In

TF,

Burn In is something that used to happen to old CRT screens. On modern (flat) screens burn in isn't a concern. Screen savers are purely decorative.

I........

I wouldn't worry about it as it will shut off to save the screen for burning thru.

Yes

Turn it off and it will go to charging mode without the screen being on.

I agree that LCD's don't suffer from burn-in, but they do lose brightness over a long life. Not all flat screens are LCD; plasma screens do have burn-in.

Plasma flat screen sets also are very apt to get burn in

Plasma flat screen sets also are very apt to get burn in because they still use phosphors and can have uneven aging of the phosphors and that can be permanent damage. They have much better black levels and viewing angles then LCD's but use more energy and are not the best for gamers because of the burn in problem which is similar to the cathode ray tube sets. That being said all my sets are plasmas.

I was going to offer that up as a guess, since that's how my Magellan works but it seems that a few folks don't like "others" butting into their pristine "Garmin world". rolleyes mrgreen

I assume other units are similar, the nuvi 350 brightness can be adjusted for almost no brightness.

Photo Slideshow Option?

Not sure this will work for you, but My nuvi 760 allows .jpg photos to be stored in memory, and will also present a 'slideshow' of sorts by slowly scrolling through them.

This model of Garmin also allows you to use any of your uploaded .jpgs as a 'wallpaper', that replaces their splash screen. Not that I'm concerned about LCD 'burn-in'... but it personalizes my GPS a bit more.

Not all that useful, as there are few controls over the playback of photos, but kind of neat just the same.
