New and need suggestions.

Hey, I am currently deployed to Iraq, and will be coming home in less than a month. I am trying to find the best GPS in the $300-400 range. I've kind of set my eyes on the Garmin Nuvi 760. Is there anyone that could offer some more suggestions? I will be going on a cross country trip to Dallas, TX and Savannah, GA. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First, thank you!

First and foremost - thank you for your service!

Secondly, glad you're coming home soon!

Lastly, you're pretty much right on the mark with the nuvi 760 ... you can't go wrong with the nuvi line of GPSr's

Thank You

Same here Thank you for serving our country and welcome home.

I hear the Nuvi 760 is a great unit.

Thanks

Thank you and welcome home. The 760 is a great unit that includes bluetooth. If you don't need bluetooth the NUVI 750 is the same unit minus the bluetooth. You can pick up the 750 for about $100 less than the 760. Either unit would work great for you....

I have the 750 and think it is great.

I am guessing that the "r"

I am guessing that the "r" in "GPSr" is for reciever? I am just looking for the best performance for the dollar. If there are any other suggestions from TOMTOM or someone else, just let me kno!

"r" is for receiver

yes, "r" is for receiver.

and, no, I won't recommend anything but garmin. most people on this site (I did say most ;)for your TomTom or Magellan users), and most reviews in the magazines and online, agree that garmin is king!

WELCOME HOME BROTHER

First Welcome Home (once a Soldier Always a Soldier - ARMY STRONG) - In my opinion the GARMIN GPS systems are the best - Of course everyone has their own choice - I use the NUVI 350 simply because of the physical size - dosen't seem to get in my way when mounted to my side window (I drive a tour bus)- have a great day / stay safe / and watch your back

I have the streetpilot c550

I really like the c550. I got it off of walmart.com for about $240 with a 3 year warranty added on to it. I looked at it at best buy and they said the lowest price they could give me was $354 so technically i guess it is in the $300-400 price range ha.

THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!! I'm glad people like you volunteer to go over there so wussies like me don't have to lol.

Thanks

Thanks for keeping us safe back at home.

Have a question for you, the military issued GPSr, what brand are them?

The 760 is a fine unit and you will not be disappointed choosing Garmin; from the units they manufacture to their customer service they are an excellent company to do business with.

They are made by Rockwell

They are made by Rockwell Collins, which dont make auto GPS's, that I know of.

Also, another quick question. Does the nuvi 760 come with the MSN Direct capability?

Thank you!

I, too, would like to offer a hearty "THANK YOU!" for your service. Our men & women in uniform, and their families, don't hear it nearly often enough. My son is a career Army aviator currently stationed at Hunter AAF, near Savannah. He returned from Iraq a short while back. Who knows, perhaps you'll cross paths.

Good luck, son. Just because your tour's winding down, PLEASE don't become complacent. Stay alert.

Miki

Is this it?

Is this what you are referring to?

They came out with a commercial model but is not for car navigation.

My father-in-law is a tech for RC, and said several months ago that the military units (or similar) should be coming out in a dumbed down version.

Garmin Nuvi 750 & c530 with RT's vol. mod., Vulcan Nomad

Stay Alert

I agree with Miki. Keep alert. My last night in Vietnam (way back before you were born) I got mortared. I came within a gnat's tinkle of getting zapped with a few hours to go in-country. Never let your guard down.

Well...

Well went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Nuvi 750. Couldnt see myself paying $100 more for bluetooth and a black finish. Hope I like it. Will be home in about a week. Thanks for all the kind words.

And yes, the GPS we use is the DAGR.

You could get the Nuvi 750

You could get the Nuvi 750 for $299 at Sams Club.
