Under Extras, do you show a category for Custom POIs and show locations under that? Or, are you talking about other Extras files like Fodor's Sample Data?

Regardless of your answers to the above, If you go ahead and load POIs to your card, they will only be additive to anything that is on the unit itself.

OK, if you are seeing locations, there is a file on the unit named POI.gpi (unless somebody renamed it XXX.gpi. It resides in the folder Garmin/POI. Once you are connected via USB to the computer, run POI Loader and one of the first screens offers the option of deleting all POIs from the GPSr. Choose that and they should disappear. Then you can run it again and load your POIs.

If you haven't already asked yourself the question, assuming this was purchased new, by you, I would wonder why they sold you a unit that was apparently not new.

POIs on SD card

Just remember that when you have your custom POIs on the SD card, every time you start your GPSr it will ask you if you want to load them from the SD card to the GPSr and you will then answer no. It is an extra step. If you answer yes and transfer them to the GPSr, you will be in the same position as you are now.

In either case they will show up under your Extras (whether on the GPSr or the SD card).

You can avoid the message by following the procedure at: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6007

C530 Doesn't Allow you to stop the inquiries???

I can't speak to the C530, but every unit I know of allows you to tell it to quit asking about transferring.

Wording to prevent the transfer of POI's from your SD card to the unit differs by model -- If your unit offers no checkbox for "Don't ask me again" on the initial prompt asking whether you want to copy the new data to the Nuvi, you must choose "Yes" (as counter-intuitive as that seems), just to pull up the second prompt that allows you to check a box saying to skip that file for transfer and future prompting. You will be given that option for each new gpi file on the SD card.

If your unit offers the "Don't ask me again" checkbox (and my 660 DOES) on the first prompt, check the box and choose "No" to the question of copying the data. You will get this prompt for each new gpi file on the SD card, but there would usually be only one.
