MSN Direct not working

 

My MSN Direct has stopped working after one or 2 days. I have left the unit plugged in and although there appears to be full bars for reception it is not getting any updates.

I have already reactivated the subscription as the MSN website suggested. I have called MSN and they recommended resetting the unit. I have tried this but to no avail.

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what if any solution there was besides sending the unit back.

I have been having some problems to. Try after the GPS is powered up to unplug the DC/antenna (tell the GPS to stay on) wait about 10 sec then plug the power back in.

Thanks for the tip although this did not solve my problem....I guess back to MSN to see what they can do.

There is a MSN Direct Status screen that might tell you what is going on. From the map page, press the speed on the bottom left, then hold down where the MPH is for about 5 seconds. Once you enter the staus screens, press next about 9 times until you see the MSN Direct Status screen. Under Subscribed, it should say Yes/Current. It also shows the signal strength. You can also hit next one more time to get the MSN Direct Messages screen. When I have this screen open, I usually see something counting up every couple of seconds. Hope this helps..

Thanks I will try that when I get the new receiver. I called Garmin and they think it may be defective. They are sending me a new one. Unfortunately we are leaving for our 1st trip since I purchased the nuvi 780 and won't be able to run it through its paces at least not the MSN Direct part.

Try going to www.MSNDIRECT.com and re-activate , also they recommend not to leave cord in a " loop " , etc they ran me through the mill also , Works good now

I did the reactivation, too,

I did the reactivation, too, and it worked. I also went and turned on the battery of my car and let the MSN pwer up for about 20 minutes or so and it came back.

Thanks all..I did do all the suggestions...sent it back to garmin and received a new one back yesterday...it is working once again. I am not happy i had to pay for shipping back to garmin.

The good is that they sent me a regular power cord while I was without the MSN power cord for no charge.

Also the new receiver they sent had a 1 year subscription free. All in all I was happy with the response garmin provided.
