go 930 and compatible cellphone

I'm going to be upgrading my cellphone soon and need some info on compatible phones and my go 930. I've looked at the tomtom website and think it's incomplete, let me explain. I'm very much interested in the LG Voyager but according the tomtom site it's not compatible (at least the phone isn't on the list at all), here is where I don't think things are up to date. I've tried to connect a friend's Voyager to my 930 and it connected, even wanted to download the phonebook, I did the same with an LG EnV2, again the phone is not on the list at tomtom. Has anyone tried to use either of these phones with the 930?

your 930 my 720

I have tried the ENV and several other brands from at&t palm and non palm units. I found that it is easy to pair but getting the data connection to work is quite different. If you find a phone that work let me know. All the phones listed on there site are 1 - 4 years old.

Hi Mike: Yes I posted there

Hi Mike:
Yes I posted there too, the only comment I got was to tryout my friends phone with the 930 but to be careful because of a charge to tether the phone to my TT. I'm wondering if there would be a charge from Verizon because the phone has internet access as part of the monthly plan.

Data plan

Rick,

You need bluetooth enabled data capable phone for the TT. TT traffic requires internet access and it needs data dialup over bluetooth. It happens that Verizon is very bad on this regard because they purposely disabled that particular BT profile on most of their capable phones. If you really needs this and must use Verizon, then you have to test it in their store (pair them up and check the data line).

Jeff

Data plan

Thanks Jeff,

The plan I'll have includes data transfer and internet, and the phone I'm getting pairs up with my 930 without a hitch (I used a friends phone to try it out). Having TT traffic isn't critical but it would be nice to know I can get it if need be. I've heard that Verizon isn't the best in the data transfer area but there are other reasons that I'm going to go with them...guess I'll have to live with it if I can't do a data transfer thing. I'll keep everyone posted when the time comes and what I go through with Verizon but so far it looks like my 930 will pair up with the LG Voyager.

Glad it works for you

Rick,

I am glad that at least one model works for you. I used Sprint and they have very little restriction on data roaming for now (unlimited). But I heard that change is coming so it may end up same like Verizon...

Jeff

cellphones

I'm not totally sure yet what will work...I can't switch to Verizon for another month...all of my testing has been done using the phones that belong to my friends....I've used an enV and a Voyager...both with Verizon...they both connected and wanted to uploadall of the contact information to my TT without a hitch...the voyager was even able to connect and get the weather through my go930. I've also been doing some reading on the tomtomforums website about cellphones and tomtom...seems like alot of people are experimenting.

Interesting that you aren't getting hit with data charges with Sprint...that's who I have now and they hammered me when I tried to connect through them...even though I had the data plan at the time. I'll keep everyone posted as I find out new things.
